    A mixer that isn't a kitchenaid?

Can anyone recommend a stand mixer that isn't a kitchenaid (out of my budget). Wouldn't get heavy use but mainly be for cakes etc and possibly dough every now and then! Budget maybe up to $300-400???

I got a kenwood chef and it is fantastic. I got it on ebay brand new from a seconds factory because it had a teeny tiny scratch on the dial. I "think" it was around $400 delivered to my door and it included a mincer attachment too

Kenwood. Even if I had a KA budget I would buy Kenwood - they have a more powerful engine and I would rather pay extra for engine and less for looks.

I have a breville one, and it's a planetary mixer. I LOVE it!! I bought mine from target, I do believe theyre on special there with an ice cream maker too at the moment. mine was about $200-$250 odd. I can't remember the name of the model, but it's not the one with the old style beaters.
My mum has the same one but it's a higher model and has a more powerful motor and a timer on it. Which didn't overly faze me so I opted for the cheaper one. I think the one my mum has is a 1000w motor, and mine is a 700-800w.

I love mine also for the fact it says on the speed bit (how far you turn it up if that makes sense? Lol) what you're doing, I.e. whisking, kneading, folding, etc. which for me is infinitely useful because on recipes i never know how fast to put it!

    So that has my vote

I have the Sunbeam Cafe series one with two mixers - don't know if it has a fancy name!! I love it, but it had to have its motor replaced within the first 12 months and the lovely fix it man replaced all the crap plastic stuff with metal stuff, so its now effectively a Kenwood in a Sunbeam body. Going from what he told me (and I put a lot of weight in his view given he's the poor guy that fixes them every single day), my next one will be a Kenwood.

I got a Bosco kitchen machine online for $200 from memory. I use it most days and it works really well.

Well - how's this for good luck? My bestie has a KA and I was telling her that I want to get a stand mixer. She says "what's a stand mixer?" I say "Its a mixer on a stand, like your KA, so you don't have to hold it". She says "OH I have my old one in storage if you want to use it?".

I don't know what brand, but clearly not a KA ha ha, but I'm happy to use it and save me buying one

Thanks for all your advice though ladies, will keep it in mind when I eventually buy a new one!
