Evolution in progress in my oven...?

How often does everyone clean the inside of their oven? I'm ashamed to admit how long it's been since cleaning the inside of mine. I only recently really thought about how gross it is to have a dirty oven which I cook our food in. Maybe there's stuff growing in there and I'm creating- a whole new species!

Also, what do you use to clean it?

About every 6 months. I spray the hell out of it with toxic oven cleaner then give the racks a good scrubbing.

I do not know when it last was!! But I did buy a voucher other day on groupon for a professional oven clean!!!

My theory on the things in oven is that it gets heated up so hot that it kills all (I am not even thinking about bugs that like warmth to multiply))\

I always plannedon cleaning it but the oven cleaners i have looked at say dont use for 24 hrs prior or 24 hrs post using and seemed to hard to find a time when working full time, then didnt want to do when preg and then didnt want to do with kids in house so never got done!

Phew! I don't feel so bad now. I was dreading that everyone would come in saying they clean theirs after every meal cooked in there, or maybe once a week. I'll now admit that we've lived here just over three years and I've never done a full proper clean, eeep! I think I'll just fork out the cash to have someone do it for me. I don't even get time to scratch my butt these days with the three littlies LOL!

You know what got me thinking about it? That ad on tv where the infant is thinking it's never going to get fed because it thinks the oven is going to take forever to clean. I think the ad is for oven cleaning wipes. It made me wonder if I was meant to be cleaning it after every use!

I do mine about once a month, sometimes a bit longer. But I found it waaaay easier to do it when we built the house and had the brand spanking new oven rather than a used rental house one! More motivation to keep it looking new I think

I also do mine about 6 monthly - racks are actually soaking as I type!

My MIL told me about a woman who cleaned hers once a week, because she hated cleaning. So everything in the house was on a schedule, to be done once a week, and that meant that nothing was actually that hard or time consuming

Just took advice from this thread, and filled out an enquiry to have my oven professionally cleaned.

In the 4 years we have been here, I think I've cleaned it maybe twice? Yuk!

I clean the outside of mine frequently! Does that count???

Mine is a newish one and it self cleans. That's what I tell myself anyway Nah seriously, I think it does. Haven't cleaned it in two years anyway and it looks pretty good.
