Where to stop Melbourne to Coffs Harbour

Going to Coffs Harbour in Jan for a wedding. Planning on driving allowing 2 nights to drive up, 5 nights there ad 2 nights to drive back due to fact kids will go nuts if in car for too long! (Will be 4 and nearly 3)

So where do people suggest stopping for food stops or play??

Where do you suggest stopping the night??

What fun things are there to do on way up? as allowing time to explore and do things on way up

There is an awesome park in albury (you need to get off at the first exit) would be great for a play.
It's called Oddies creek adventure park (nouruil park)

We stopped for the night in Goulburn - just at the caravan park, but it had really lovely facilities and the cabin was quite big considering it held all of us!

Ettamogah pub just past Albury is a cool place to stop for a look around.

There's a huge submarine embedded into the ground in Holebrook (I think). My kids love it.

I can't remember any places past Sydney, I think we drove straight through, only stopping for petrol.

Just stumbled across this.... we are doing the same road trip for a wedding in late October. We were thinking of leaving very early in the morning (say 2 or 3 am) and driving until breakfast/kids wake up. Then trying to make it to Sydney by the end of the day for a sleep over. Im not sure if that will work! We are going to take dvds and colouring in stuff. my kids dont have computer games so thats out for us. Thanks for the tips....

I would think that driving half way and then stopping over night would be best, so go from Melb to probably about Woolongong. That is driving up the inland route. That would be about 9-ish hrs driving. And then from Woolongong to Coffs is about 7-8hrs.
I'm not really sure on places to stop between Melb to Goulbourn, but Goubourn is a fairly decent sized town to stop at. Then maybe Hornsby before you get onto the freeway. Newcastle is about 2 1/2-3 hrs from there. Not sure between Newcastle and Port Macquarie, but Port is a lovely place. Then Coffs isn't too far from there.
