    Lumber Puncture Headache

    Has anyone had one?
    how long did it last?
    what helped you?

I have had a lumber punture headache since i had the puncture on friday afternoon!
I can't do a thing but lay on my back! i can last a couple of minutes standing or sitting before i am in the worst pain ever!
No pain relief meds have helped. the only thing that helps is laying flat!
But i can't live like that! it is driving me nuts and getting me really depressed! i even had some bad thoughts this morning!

Maybe time to go back to the doctor, if at least to get something for the pain. I think it would also be important to mention how it's making you feel mentally to.

I agree about calling the hospital and letting them know the headache is unresolved.

Definitely go back to the hospital. I had a post LP headache after a lumbar puncture for suspected meningitis about 10 years ago (turned out to be just a throat infection). I never left hospital as I couldn't get to the toilet and back without vomiting and crushing headache. I couldn't even sit up to feed myself.

They often resolve by themselves after a few days of bed rest but if it's not settling they can do something called a blood patch to fix it. They basically take some of your own blood and inject it at the puncture site where it clots and seals the hole. This fixed mine but in hindsight I should never have let the doctors wait a whole week before doing this!

I absolutely agree with the above. Don't go to the gp's- go to the emergency department .

I went back to the hospital yesterday and they put me on iv fluids and tremal which didn't help. Was told if still in pain after 5-7days I would get blood patch.
k4t your experience sounds like mine. I can't get up to go to the toilet or sit up to eat either. Does the blood patch hurt?

Jeez, 5 days is a bit rough! I'd be complaining loudly - can your GP request admission for you?
