    Healthy Snacks for Car Trip

Going on a long car trip soon (10 hrs) and I want to make some snacks for the kids rather than buy them. Some healthy things with little or no sugar would be good. Two kids hyped up on sugar strapped into car seats is surely not a recipe for fun, LOL.

Anyone have some suggestions for me? I have never made muesli bars before, are home made ones good?

    TIA

Homemade muesli bars are good but would still contain are fair bit of sugar as it normaly what sticks them together.

We don't have any exciting ideas but generally take some peanut butter sandwiches, rice cakes, vege sticks and nuts.

I also make a date slice that is sort of like date loaf with oats added and in a slice tin so it can be cut into sticks like a muesli bars.

Rice wheels, muffins, pop corn, dried fruit, cheese and veggie sticks, fruit, yoghurt squirties( i hate the waste of these and price but they are perfect for trips!), sandwiches, sushi, banana bread would be ok with minimal sugar. I make muesli bars too - the homemade muesli bar receipe on taste is good, but it does have honey and brown sugar in it.

Trail mix - nuts, seeeds, some sultanas.
    Savoury mini muffins or quiches
    Melon Balls
    Bananas
Piklets or crumpets (my girls love these cold with butter O.o)
    Popcorn
    ****tail franks
    Hard boiled eggs.

    Enjoy your trip!

    Some great suggestions already.
My tip. Pull over every 2 hours or so for a snack time in a playground. They can run off the sillies and you won't get the messier snacks all though your car.

Depending on how well your girls eat, you could also do carrot/celery sticks and apple slices.
These are some great ideas, and I'm going to steal them

we did a trip to sydney with a 20 month old so had to factor snacks into it - i know we stopped every 90mins to two hours for a run/play/toilet break, and had proper "meal" type food then. but in the car we had dry fruit mix, sultana buds, rice crackers, vegemite sandwiches and water. we had more interesting sandwiches (chicken and salad) when we stopped, as well as yogurt and things.

surprisingly (to me anyway!) the little girl that snacks all the time at home didn't want to eat all that much while we were travelling. i guess she's more like me than i thought (i tend to go into "not sure how far til the next loo so i'm not going to eat or drink too much" mode lol)

These are some great ideas, we are doing a 10hr car trip with 3 in a couple of months so some good ideas for me as well.

We are planning on leaving pretty early to get through Melb before they are due to wake and have breakfast - so will stop for about an hour - and then try and get to the next stop for lunch after they have another sleep, then a stop for afternoon tea, so hopefully we won't need too many snack during the actual drive part of the trip
