    Cough suppressant during pregnancy?

Does anyone know if there is a cough supressant that is safe to take during pregnancy?

The Dr says I have rhinovirus (which is just the common cold) and I have ventolin and polaramine (to dry out the mucous production).

But I have a dry, tickling cough that produces very little if any phelgm. It is quite severe - coughing at least once per minute when I am awake generally and sometimes I cough in fits where I almost vomit and I can't get my breath. Just now I was coughing so much that I thought we might have to call an ambulance (which I never have before).

Honey and warm water by the gallon help a little but if I could just supress the urge to cough a bit, I would feel a lot better.

I had a similar cough last year when I was pregnant and the pharmacy sold me pholcodine. I think it was Duro-tuss or something. Tasted foul but helped a bit.

I don't normally take any medicines when pregnant, but by that point I figured it was better for the baby if I was able to breath!

And she came out just fine
