    Cloth nappy change routine?

    Hello,

A newbie cloth question here. DS is 6 weeks and at the moment we are using the stash of free disposables we were given, however they are running out and we'll soon change over to cloth full time. I have some Bambooties and lots of Real Nappies prefolds.

At the moment we change nappies halfway through a feed so use about 7-8 a day. Everything I read says 8 - 12 cloth nappies is the norm so I guess I'll be changing them more often.

So do you have certain times you change them? Before and after a feed? Just before a sleep? How does it work for you?

    Thanks!

I change A when she wakes, half way through feeds and dependin on how long she's awake for or the noises I hear, before she goes down again. It also depends on which nappy she has on (flats more frequently than prefolds, which I do more frequently than an AIO) - but you'll findthat out through trial and error

i change DD when she wakes up before we feed. then depending if i hear noises etc i might change her again before she goes down. i also make note of about time i last changed (like a last feed) and go 'hmm..its been 5 hrs i probably should change her..'

Yep, same as the others. Basically when it feels wet, I hear a poo, I think it might be a while before I change again (sleep, going out etc), or when I think it's been a while. You'll get the hang of it.

I didnt find I changed any more often with cloth, we still went through 7-8 a day.

I changed after most feeds, I think, let baby have a Kick around with no pants. She loved it, and maybe that's why we didn't go through so many!

If I'm going somewhere first thing in the morning and not planning to be home til bedtime (does happen quite frequently - you get the hang of carting these kids around ), I usually pack 8 cloth nappies and then two night nappies. Theory being change every 2hrs max (so that's 6 for 12hrs worth) and 2 for backup, in case I change and get a pooey straight away. And I put night nappy on when we leave as often they fall asleep on the way home and then it's just a matter of shifting them inside.

I rarely use 8 nappies in that time, but I have needed the backup night nappy. Most days I get home and I've only used maybe 4 or 5, so 6 or 7 for the whole day.
