What happened between the dinosaurs and people......

"Mum what happened between the dinosaurs and people?
Did people come out of dinosaurs tummy's?
    How did people get here?"

    Lol questions from miss 5!

So how do I explain how people evolved?
We 're not religious so don't want to explain overly religious stuff with her,

    How would you answer??

Well technically we had the wooly mammoths and the ice age between dinosaurs and humans, so maybe go with something like that and maybe it will distract from the whole where did humans come from question.

Lots of animals evolved over time...

I have already told dd we evolved from apes or a common ancestor. She seemed to like that idea especially when we visited the orangutans at the zoo.

I believe in evolution, but I will also tell her some people believe in gods or goddesses and maybe we came out of the tummy of a goddess...?

    Is evolution too scientific?

    How would you answer??
    Umm. Ask your father.

Not very helpful but that one's a bit tough for my poor old fried brain cells.

Well, mammals, albeit small ones, lived when the dinosaurs did. We came from them. Go evolution!

eta- or just watch some old episodes of The Flintstones with her. This problem solved, whole more problems available.

We’ve got a few books on evolution and talk about it all the time because our kids are very interested. If you google “Our Family Tree: An Evolution Story” that one is excellent and probably the most age appropriate for your DD at the moment.

We are doing this at the moment too. Evolution. I said people argue if stared as monkey or from fish etc. It started our kids thinking. Some come from fish, monkeys, and spacemen was what i got answered. Maybe more close then i know lol.
Its hard finding non religious stuff that's not complicated

Sorry if it doesn't make sense, the barefoot princess is covering me with kisses

great question! it's a big concept, if only because of the massive time spans. I'd check out the library for some age appropriate evolution books. Best to go with evidence-based information.

you've inspired me - my 5 year old hasn't asked this yet, but I found this site http://learnthingsweb.hubpages.com/h...on-to-Children that looks good. (has some kids books listed too).

Have fun, sounds like you have a smart kid! Love the big questions!

It's a great age for soooo many questions!! ;P My DD asks alot about how things work / move - eg: a truck... a bit easier to answer but she can still stump me from time to time!

I guess my answer for the evolution question (we are non-practising Catholic) would be to answer 'some people think XYZ, others think ABC' and answer it from a non-religious and religious POV.

The two sites posted, one by epacris and the other by catherine are a great start! Have fun!
