HELP, Ideas needed for fussy 15mth old.

I need some more ideas on what foods to offer one of my 15mth old twins.

The other twin will eat anything and everything - non stop, all day of he had the chance but the other one has recently become extremely fussy.

Considering both boys get offered the same foods, DS1 has now decided that most of the foods offered he won't eat.

It is mainly lunch and snacks that he refuses to eat or spits out or throws on the floor.

He will always eat dinner and is ravenous by the time dinnertime rolls around, although he will always eat the protein offered and then the veggies last (DS2 goes for the veggies first and protein last )

So the things he won't eat:
Sandwiches - although he will eat toast in the morning
    Fruit Muffins
    Fruit Sticks
Most fruits - bananas, apples, mandarins (will see how he goes once summer comes around when more fruit is available but it is very limited at the moment)

    Things he will eat:
    Yoghurt
    Rice Rusks
    Milk Arrowroot Biscuits
Dried Cherrio Cereal - only a small handful though
Sultanas - when he wants too
Rice Crackers - when he wants too

It seems he may have a more savoury palate just like DD, but when I offer numerous things during the day and he refuses to eat I am at a loss and I feel bad offering the same boring stuff everyday with no variation. I do know he must be getting enough to eat though as he is still putting on weight and growing but I don't want it to get to the stage where I am having to create separate meals for all 3 kids as they have food they will and won't eat.

So any other ideas would be appreciated, oh and he still only has 4 teeth so he still has trouble biting and chewing a lot of foods as well.

Hmmm trying to think of DDs faves (she seems like your other son who will eat everything). Will he eat cheese? Strawberries? Canned stone fruit (DD loves peaches). Pita bread with dip or fruit bread (DD loves these at childcare). If he has only 4 teeth, would he eat pureed fruit? Custard? Yoghurt? Soup?

Alternatively - perhaps he is waiting for something with flavor? For DD, the more flavor/spice the more she will eat.

Hope some of these ideas help.

Cruskits? My kids love them with avocado.
How about scrambled eggs, soup, pasta, dip and veggie sticks?

Ooh, I forgot about scrambled eggs and pasta - two of DDs faves (esp spag bog and lasagne - you can hide veggies in either). She also loves quiche.

    Thanks girls

He loves spagetti bolognese or pretty much anything pasta related, they generally have a pasta dinner at least twice a week - either bolognese, spaghetti and meatballs or spaghetti marinara. He also loves rice, so chicken and rice is also on the dinner menu (this is DD's favourite dinner as well).

Banana bread won't work, I made wholemeal mini muffins today - banana ones & Apple ones - both got spat out, so just me, DH and DS2 will be eating them, DD won't eat them either.

Strawberries, I'm hesitant to give as all kids get a rash on their faces after having them. I think it is just a localized thing as DD will eat strawberries everyday and always has a rash around her mouth after eating.

Eggs he will eat, and I even managed to get 1/3 of a cheese stick into him this afternoon. Yogurt is fine, custard no problem. I suppose I will keep perservering with different foods as DS2 will eat it if knowone else will

I think your DS is getting lots of variety. If he eats a proper dinner then all of the things you have said he likes actually make up alot of lunch options.

One thing that my DS likes (and we all eat) is what we call 'DS's Special Soup'. We make it with minced turkey, but have used minced chicken and pork too, we add ginger, lemongrass, grated carrot and small pieces of broccoli. Sometimes we add black quinoa but always we add little pasta shells. DP and I eat it as a soup but mainly we drain the broth off for DS and give him the meat, pasta and veggies. He loves it. I put leftovers into small containers and freeze so he can have it again for lunches.

I posted about my DS1's fussy eating.

He has now gotten worse and will only eat savoury food at almost 18mths old. At the moment his breakfast, lunch and snack diet consists of Vegemite Toast, Cheesybite and Crackers, dry Water Crackers and Rice Crackers.

He is simply refusing anything sweet at all, which is mainly fruit and has even started refusing yoghurt.

He is still eating all his dinner options - although he has started to refuse vegies - so I'm still trying to keep up the pasta, rice options but I feel so bad that he isn't getting much variety in his day to day diet. Add to that the fact that his brother will eat anything and everything and DD is fussy but not to this extreme, I'm now catering for numerous requests it feels like I'm running a cafe.

Not sure what else to offer him..:/

If you offer veggies or fruit to him and don't give another option will he eventually eat or just go hungry?

He will throw it on the floor or squash it between his fingers and then throw it on the floor. He would go hungry rather than eat fruit and veggies. Oh and if he does leave food his brother will always eat it.

Hmmmm.....I've not had to deal with that as my DD is like your other kids. I hope someone here has some good advice and suggestions for you!

Thanks. My kids like to be different for sure, most parents complain about trying to get their kids to eat savoury because all they want is sweet things (which are more readily available) but not my DS1 he has to be the other way around
