    Parasomnia in children?

Has anyone had any dealings with this? While reading up on night terrors last night i realised that there is a good chance that this is what my DD has and was wondering if there was anyone else that has anymore information.

Parasomnia is a general grouping for a whole range of sleep issues.
I have lived through quite a few years now of night terrors, confused arousals, sleep walking and teeth grinding.

She has night terrors but also is constantly kicking while asleep. She also rocks herself and bangs her head when trying to get her to settle. She snores as well.

When taken sperately i didnt think much of it but after reading a thread last night i was reading up about night terrors and it was describing symptoms of restless leg syndrome and it all just clicked.

Apparently it is a genetic thing and my DP has a mild case of sleep apnoea so maybe it has come from this?

She wakes up with night terrors at least once a week and after reading i has realised that us holding her tight is not the right thing to do and last night woke her up just before her second sleep cycle started (which is when is generally happens) and she was fine.

I suppose i am just looking for any advice for other things we can do to help.

Honestly her sleep issues have reached the point where mine and my DP's relationship is starting to be seriously effected and i just thought she was a horrible child who would sleep and we were horrible parents .

Don't score your parenting skills on how your child sleeps. Some kids just take longer to work it all out, similar to other life skills like walking and talking.
I think bananas can help with restless legs. Massage before bed or getting your little one to run around might help, unfortunately a lot of it offs trial and error to find what works for you.
