    ED or Clinic?

Ds1 jumped of a swing and hurt his heel. 1.5 hours later he's still limping about. Do I go to the clinic or ed?

I'd say ED, only because most can ultrasound or x-ray it straight away rather than GP, x-ray place then back to GP IYKWIM.

Is it swollen? Has it been iced to see if that helps?

I'd say ED, if you go to clinic they will probably send you there anyway for an x-ray

ED, clinic will just have a look/feel and refer you to an ED for an X-ray anyway. Hope it's okay!

Do you have private cover? If so go to a private hospital ED, it'll be quicker.

I'm going against the grain here, I'd go to a clinic if you can get him in. You'll likely be 'non critical' in ED with a fair wait unless they're efficient, at least in a clinic you'll (probably, depending on your clinic) be seen quicker. This is usually my approach to non-life threatening emergencies. My GP gets children in in between appointments, it's always better for us to go to the GP, takes the strain off the ED anyway. The clinic will tell you to go to the ED if they think it's necessary.

Or give Nurse on call a buzz - 1300 60 60 24. They might be able to tell where is best to go. Good luck, hope it's just a bruise/sprain.

The walk-in clinic at the hospital is between the car park and the ED so we went there. They have a minor fractures room there and the nurse had a look and a bit of a poke decided it was just a nasty sprain so we're home with ice packs, neurofen and bandages.
