    Home made muesli bars

So I made some muesli bars for the first time on Monday and initially was pretty proud of my efforts - they were tasty, chewy and the kids loved them!

Overnight I then placed them in an airtight container. The next morning they had gone hard as rock and the kids found them impossible to eat - especially with wobbly teeth! They still taste ok and DH and I are able to eat them, just not the kids.

So my question is what to do next - do I try the recipe again and add more quantities of the wet ingredients (butter, honey and golden syrup?). Or does anyone else have a fool proof recipe where the bars turn out chewy and not crunchy?

I used to have a really good recipe for museli bars but I've lost it.... it was one from a friend too so I can't even google!

I would try adding more of the wet ingredients, it should keep them soft. From memory, my recipe had quite a bit of honey and peanut butter in it and i think that was what made them nice and chewy.

    Hope that helps!

Are they cooked or uncooked ones?
I posted a thread a good while ago with the exact opposite problem - my uncooked bars were too soft and crumbly.
If yours are uncooked, perhaps compare my one with yours and see where the differences are.
If they are cooked ones, all i can think of is perhaps they were cooked too long? I dunno, i'm not savvy with recipes like some.

They were cooked - the recipe said to remove them when the skewer came out clean, that took longer then the suggested cooking time so perhaps Lenny that may have been the problem. Like you I am not savvy either!

Thanks Sibbie - mine also had honey so I will try adding some more next time.
