    Vba2c info needed- help please!

    Ok.
I'm due mid Jan and just had my booking in appointment today with the hospital (Gold coast hospital) and it didn't go down very well with the midwife when I said I want a Vba2c.
Her exact words were 'we don't allow vaginal births after 2 c-sections at this hospital'. And because I didn't change my mind they refused to set up my care plan (midwife based care) until after I have seen an OB.
    I left feeling pretty deflated.

My 1st c-section (emergency) was a failed induction, and fetal distress. I had my second last year (exactly a year tomorrow ) and that was an elective.
I loved my second c-sec! It was an awesome birth
My reason for wanting a Vba2c this time is because I developed endometritis which for various reasons wasn't treated properly until 6w PP. I nearly lost my uterus and as a consequence of that I lost my milk supply. I tried to keep BF but ended up giving up at 8 weeks later.

Any advice or experience would be appreciated. And what books and info would be worth the read??
    Thanks for reading! Xx

I don't have any real advice - I am having a VBAC in November, so am new to it all.

But this is what I would do....Firstly, stuff the m/w & chat to the OBS like she said.

Do you know this OBS, his/her history of VBAC etc...? I know mine very well & am constantly told he is the best choice (in our area) for supporting successful VBACs.

Also, my hospital (private) has a high success rate for VBAC - does this hospital?? You should be able to obtain some information from either chatting to m/ws at the hospital, the OBS or chatting to people who have birthed there.

It might be hospital policy not to allow VBA2C but the OBS might have a bit of a say to allow you to VBA2C. If not, can you consider an alternative hospital or an alternative way to birth?

Prior to seeing the OBS - arm yourself with knowledge about success rates of VBAC, VBA2C etc... and obtain information on 'scare' tactics like uterine rupture etc... (I think BB has this information on here) It rarely occurs and it was in the past associated with them giving the birthing mother a type of drug - can't remember it all or if what I have typed is overly accurate.

Consider taking RLT (from 30 weeks), inserting EPO (around 37 weeks), hypnobirthing CD or classes (heard classes are much better), doing yoga or meditation to help with your frame of mind. The m/w I was chatting to the other night said success of vaginal delivery & VBAC is usually the mindset of the birthing mother. There is a VBAC thread here, not much happening in there atm though. Also, I check out the homebirth threads fgor inspiration and little tips they give in their threads that I consider for me even though I am birthing in hospital. I think BB has a list of recommended reading books, like silent knife and a few others, not that I have read them.

    Best of luck hun

Would you be interested in having a homebirth with an experienced independent midwife? This is probably your best chance of success in Australia at this time.

Having a doula or independent midwife in the hospital setting will also help you get the best outcome for you and baby.

Very very interested in this thread, just had my second c section 5 weeks ago due to bubs being breech although my on is huge supporter of VB delivery and vbac but not combining the two. I am yet to talk to him about a vbac2 but am hoping to be pg again at the end of next year :0

Hi Yas, not sure if u came up with some support from hospital or not but I have noticed that there are quite a few independent midwives with hospital rights down the Gold Coast now - have you checked them out as an option???
I have heard they do look after vbac clients....

    Vba2c info needed- help please!

I had a VBA2C in May 2009 at Mater Mother's Brisbane. They tried to convince me not to, but said they'd support what I wanted to do. I was honestly expecting to have to convince them to let me, so I went to my OB appointment armed with info - all my reasons for wanting a VBA2C, benefits of vaginal birth, and a print-out of a study I found on the Internet which concluded there was no difference in risk of uterine rupture between VBA2C and VBAC. (So sorry I can't find the link!) Everyone I saw at the hospital gave me a different statistic for the uterine rupture risk (ranging from 0% increase to 5% increase), and some even laughed at me for wanting to have a vaginal birth at all! I had to have a couple of OB appointments for other opinions on the matter, but they all said while they advise against it, they'll support me. So I'd advise you to go in armed with info, prepared to stick up for yourself, and don't take too much notice of their "statistics". Is Brisbane too far away far to drive for you? Current pregnancy I'm at Redlands Hospital, but since they don't do VBA2C, they will transfer me to Mater at 36 weeks. If something like that's not an option, then perhaps a private midwife will be the way to go. All the best, I hope you get the birth experience you're hoping for. :0)
