    Anyone studying accounting?

I'm just wondering if there's any bb girls (or boys!) studying accounting at the moment?

I'm half way through my diploma at the moment and considering whether I go on to do the degree

I was studying. Stopped when I had DD1, sadly 4 subjects short of my degree and now too late to finish (not that I want to).

What do you want to do? Do you want to be a full blown accountant and if so, what area? If you are considering that, your study won't stop at the degree, it is advisable to join one of the accounting bodies (CPA, CA, etc) Are you looking at corporate, small business, auditing, forensic etc

As much a I would like to have a completed degree under my belt, I no longer want to be an accountant. I enjoy business and some aspects of accountancy (I really like payroll), but was really turned off the by the culture (I was in corporate accounting, all about what you wear, where you go on holiday and how much you suck up to management), I am more geek so never fit in. I know now I would be better off with more of a general business degree. I know work with a firm that writes accounting software, I support payroll.

    Good questions Astrid!

I'm not exactly sure of the path I want to take. I initially started to diploma with the thought of starting my own bookkeeping business. I'm now not sure if this is the path I want to take anymore.

I like the tax accountant side of things so far and could see myself doing this.

Forensic accounting is also something I might look a little further into.

With the hoops you have to go through now to have your own bookkeeping business, you may as well take the extra steps to be an accountant. Sadly I find people just don't want to pay what a good bookkeeper is worth. I had my own business and after moving decided to not try and start it again.

If I was to go down the accounting path again, I would look to work for a small accounting firm once I worked out that corporate did not suit me. I do think experience in both areas is really valuable though.
