    Colour theme for Christmas decorations

As the title suggests i am after so ideas for a colour theme for my Christmas tree. I want to break the habit of buying random decorations and just by ones that suit each other.
I live in a old farm house if that helps. Oh and k am surrounded by boys :-)

We have gold and red on our tree. I also like the look of purple and silver, if you arent into the traditional colours

    What about gold and silver?

I've seen some gorgeous trees that have that colour theme and you can get different looking decorations that are those colours and that go well together.

I like random decorations best of all.
I hate the Christmas trees that look like they have been put together by a stylist and much prefer the 'kids went crazy and threw everything they could find at the tree' look.

I change colour schemes each year, if I put a tree up. One year it was blue and gold, another silver and glass, another red and silver. I generally try to make it look like a stylist has put it together I can get very antsy about making it look perfect, which is silly really. I also try to avoid red and green.

We have a big beautiful black Xmas tree. Our decorations for it & the house are always black, silver & white for us. Sometimes I add a colour, but rarely

We have a retro theme for our tree most of the time. We have a lot of the inlaws old decorations from when try owned a shop over 30 years ago. Really good quality stuff.

I tried to do a colour theme one year but my dd cracked it because she wanted her fav things up. Now I just make it look festive with as many retro things a I can!

We have two trees. Our big tree is blue and silver only; Absolutely no exceptions, including the gifts wrapped underneath - Santa gets VERY strict instructions ;-)

I am however aware that the kids love all sorts of bright, tacky stuff (which is what Christmas trees are all about) so the girls have a smaller tree that goes in their toy room and that has every colour imaginable. Santa gets a request in their wish letters that he leaves some presents under each tree.

    Thanks for the suggestions guys.

Onyx I have tried the Random and it just isn't doing it for me unfortunately so i'm going to try for the more stylish this year. LuLu I like your idea of the 2 trees, might do that.

Chrispe will have to do some research into heritage, and look into what the German Decorations consist of.

I love the sound of the black tree (although that would be buying a whole new tree also) but it sounds beautiful.

i kinda like the messy mixed decos - reminds me of Christmases growing up. i look at the color matched ones, and, i dunno, they feel too styled and just not as "family friendly"

i have "nice" decos though - glass, or ceramic, hand-painted etc. a lot from bradford exchange with Thomas Kinkade artwork on them. i guess the TK ones would probably fit an idea of more 'heritage' - santas and snowmen with village scenes painted on them. absolutely gorgeous

Pic worked, thanks BG, beautiful decoration.....I think I would have to return to work early in order to pay for them all

I think my problem is I'm too far away from town and I can't really source decent decorations, might try and get a look at Myer this year.

Like the sound of black with pink and silver, might add a slight feminine touch to my very male household. Don't know if they would appreciate it though.

I ahve done pink and silver and pale blue and silver on a big traditional tree and they look great! I am thinking red and blue this year but we too end up a bit hodge podge with kinder decos inbetween - so really we have a main colour theme with other bits Might not be what you want!! Will see if I can find a photo!
