Question Kindergarten has been approved as a registered carer - anyone else?

I know that BG will be able to answer this for me personally but i wanted to put it out there to see if anyone else has had this happen?

In our fee's section for 4yr old kinder next year it says -
Families may be eligible for a concession rate if they hold a current health care card or pension card
    - not us

The further below it states - (
insert shire name) Shire Council has successfully appliued to become a registered carer with the Family Assistance Office, which will allow eligible families to claim child care benefit for kindergarten fees. Please contact the FAO to find out if you are eligible to make a claim
So i guess now i have to contact the FAO and see if i am eligible, i have already paid her first tersm fee's up front to secure her position for next year so i don't know if i call and ask now or do i wait until closer to the start of kinder next year?

Anyone else have this in their shire with kinder fees?

ok, Registered care is claimed after care has been used (up to 12 months) - it's an amount of approx 60c per hour for the care you've used, and BOTH parents must be meeting the work/study/training test

you pay the bill, you get a receipt with all the hours you've used care each week, fill in the form, and send it off. it will then be processed as soon as someone can get to it, but is not deemed to be high priority (processed by the same staff that do baby bonus etc)

I qualified for both my DS's. I was working part time and DH full time. I did it as BG has explained. It didn't actually take too long. Pretty sure it was within a few weeks.
I did mine at the end of 2nd term then at the end of final term.
I rang the council and asked for an itemised statement to claim through Family Assistance and they posted it out to me. The form you fill in is long which is another reason I only did it twice
You have to wait until the end of each term as it's paid on attendance from memory, as in they key in each date your child attends and you get a portion of each session back.

yes, the receipt/statement you provide has each week of the term, the number of hours used, the amount paid. all of this has to be individually input and then it processes an amount from that. if you send in a statement and it's received before the end of the last week listed, you won't get paid for that week kwim?

Ok so I might just be better to wait & do it at the end of the year?
Do i need to register before hand though?

nope, no pre-registration needed - and yes, waiting til the end of the year would be my suggestion. if kinder is 10 hours a week, you might get all of $6.50 (rounded up) per week, maybe $10 for a 15 hour week... it's best to wait and do it all at once. just make sure you have completed and returned the claim within one year of the first date you use care (so if it starts from Feb 2013, get your claim in by end of jan 2014)
