At what point do you see a specialist for an ear infection? It seems every time DD cuts a tooth she gets an ear infection. We have had approx 4 ear infections in the past 3 months. The last 2x (inc this time) are double ear infections. The entire month this we've had 3 lots if antibiotics for ear infections amongst other things too.
It's scary - her temp gets over 40 and I'm sick of the ab's circle.
I would be asking or demanding if they won't give you one, a referral for an ENT. It may not be the teeth that are causing the ear infections rather a short eustachian tube. Grommets would definitely help.
From experience, often a GP cannot see glue ear. An ENT will pick it up in an instant. I remember taking my DS2 at 18mths and the ENT once he scooped the wax out with his little hook, instantly diagnosed glue ear and we were in within 2days for grommets. It was an instant relief. He also commented on the amount of AB's DS2 had been on. He mentioned we should have seen him much earlier.
That's alot of AB's in a short spell of time.
Yeah get a referral for an ENT. My daughter had recurrent ear infections around 12 mths old. He gave her steroids for six weeks (nasal spray) and she hadn't had one since, she is now 4! Good luck.
My SIL is a Chiro and would say she could help. I am not sure as I didn't go down that path. Alot of Chiro's do not believe in conventional treatments such as such steroid based medications and will treat using Chiropractic adjustments. It could be worth a try while you are going through getting a referral to see if it gives some relief. Alot of Paediatric ENT's can be booked up for a few months. If you have to or choose to go public, the wait list can be months and months.
