Hi all, my 6 year old came down with temps and headaches and sore throat yesterday. Today she also had a rash on tummy and back so I took her to the dr. Dr diagnosed tonsillitis and viral rash and she has had two doses of antibiotics. I have a feeling ( through dr google) that its scarlet fever. It really looks like that kind of rash and all other symptoms are the same. I am taking her back to the dr tomorrow night, on drs request, but I am wondering if I should go to hospital tonight cause her rash is spreading a bit more and looking a bit redder. I would like to know if it is scarlet fever for sure as well. Will they think I'm a weirdo if I say I think it's something different to what Gp says?
No they are not going to think you are strange.. It is best to get rashes checked. Better to be told it us just a viral rash again and sent home to treat it as you have been, rather than think you are being silly and it be something worse..
Either way, hope your dd starts getting better real soon..
In all honesty "my dr said its tonsillitis and a viral rash but google says its scarlet fever..." Sounds pretty... Yeah XD but go with your mummy instincts. If you think it's something more, go to the ER.
FWIW my mum had scarlet fever and she felt so bad she thought she was going to die. I don't think she got up from bed for about two weeks.
DD had scarlett fever a few weeks ago, the tell tale sign for her was the "strawberry tongue" If it is scarlett fever the treatment is pretty much the same for tonsilitis but the doctor looking after DD wanted to see her a few times in the last few weeks just to make sure she didnt get any of the lingering after effects. Hoping that its not it xo
Did they of any tests to confirm? I think I'll just ask when I take her back tomorrow. She has perked up a bit and I guess if it was she would be sicker. She is eating and drinking and was up and about this evening.
No he didn't do any other tests to confirm it, she had all the symptoms and he was confident she had scarlet fever, hes an awesome old school doctor who's more than just a GP so I trust his judgement But shes made a full recovery with no after effects, it used to be one of those reportable illness's but with antibotics it no longer needs to be.
