    Teeth through lip

We were away a couple of weeks ago when DS had a fall and put what we think was his teeth through his lip. It went all the way through from inside to out. I took him to the hospital in Nelson Bay where doc had a look at it and he decided not to stitch it. Said it would heal better naturally and also would be really traumatic for him so he didn't see the need. (Would also have had to take him to Newcastle to get it done as they weren't equipped in this little hospital to do something like that - this wasn't a reason not to stitch if required).

Lip and face round his mouth all puffed up and swollen over weekend but DS was a little trooper and didn't complain. Off his food on Saturday (happend Friday evening) but understandable as he couldn't open his mouth to eat. Gave him panadol for pain. Took him to medical centre when we came back on Sunday as I didn't like that it appeared to be oozing slightly. This doc said it was infected and she put him on course of anti-biotics (amoxcillan)for week and gave me a cream (bactroban) to put on his face. Swelling went down really quickly and antibiotics did the trick and it is pretty much cleared up.

There is a small mark left on the outside of his lip where obviously its cut through. Will this fade naturally or is there something I can put on it to make it fade away or will he be left with a little momento of the incident? Its not really bad like he is "scarred" but you would notice. I kinda looks like when you have been chewing on your lip or if a cold sore has left a mark ITMS.

I'd hate to think that I should have got it stitched to make it go away completely and that he'll be left with a little scar because I didn't insist on having it stitched

    Any ideas?

Bio oil or vitamin e oil is good for reducing scars

Kids do seem to heal up better than adults, so there is a fair chance it will fade over time. Although DD fell and split between her nostrils when she was 13 months old (only toy in the whole room and she had to land on it!!) and it is still scarred.

It may still have scarred if it was stitched anyways
