My daughter is nearly 3.5yrs been toilet training for nearly a year and she has been far from perfect but certainly very manageable but this past week she no longer cares. But even her pattern of toilet has changed, it use to be very obvious when she needed to poo but now will poo while playing (generally sitting) and then stays sitting until she has my attention eg. throws things, hits her sister etc then I discover the poo. Yesterday she was sitting in wee and then started laughing saying toilet toilet. So I now people say regression is quite normal but how do you get past the regression.
I have started a reward chart but that appears to be not much encouragement, I have also given her alot of attention for the past week ie. barely left her side and done lots of activities with her (she loves craft activities so I was doing a new activity everytime she had success which worked sort of for wee but I'm really concerned about her lack of poo).
So anyway how did you get past the regression stage?
Well I thought I would reply to my own thread since many have read but not replied (so maybe others are having the same problem). It appears the problem has resolved itself after about 2 weeks. I certainly changed somethings ie. spent more time with her trying to pick up on toilet queues, reward charts etc but I really don't think anything really helped she just got back into it herself. It started with her saying she needed to go to the toilet but having already done some then her making it to the toilet. So for others that are dealing with toilet regression my experience suggests they will sort it out themselves. But I certainly know it is highly frustrating waiting for that to happen. The part I hated the most was her not caring, I can handle trying ie. accidents on the way to the toilet but hiding and not trying was just plain frustrating but pleased to report all is back on track. She even just got herself out of bed and did a poo, very proud.
