DP and I are taking up calorie counting (again haha) as of today. I love this method and it really works for me. We add up what ever we have eaten that day and deduct the amount burnt with our afternoon bike ride or walk.
The thing that is a little bit different this time is this we are TTC so I dont want to limit my intake too much. Usually when dieting I aim for 1200 calories, and if its over 1200, then burn the extra. I was thinking i might just bump it up to 1400 a day while im TTC? obviously i wont be trying to lose weight once we are pregnant. I'm only sitting a few kilos over my normal weight at the moment but DP is about 15kg over his normal weight so im mostly only doing it to support him in getting a little healthier.
Does any one else calorie count? How many do you aim for a day? And if your partner is counting too - how may does he aim for?
Good luck trying TTC hun I use My Fitness Pal to work out my calories - you enter in all your details, weight, activity levels etc. I am on around 1380 a day. There are mixed thoughts around adding or deducting your exercise calories - the forums on MFP have lots of threads - some swear that you cannot lose weight if you don't add them to your daily total, especially if you are doing alot of exercise, along the lines that your body needs the extra nourishment when you are exercising alot. Others say you won't lose weight if you eat that much - I personally stick to around my daily total and if I go a bit over or under I don't worry too much as long as I am eating as clean as I can without chocolate and crap (my vice!).
Good luck with both the weight loss and TTC - there is a diet and weight loss chatter thread too if you want to join us there.
When I keep track, I used Calorie King. It works it all out based on activity level and also shows you not just the calories but also the nutrients of the food so you can see what's really going on (e.g. you might come under the calorie intake but have an imbalance of carb-protein-fat).
Thanks for all the advice guys! I have used my fitness pal before and had success with it.
Tomorrow morning I'll take my weight and pop over to the diet and weight loss chatter thread
Best of luck achieving your goals
