what are things to see/do in Melbourne?

    hiya all,

DF & i are going to St Kilda from the 26th Dec - 3rd Jan. we've never been out of SA together, so this is a big holiday for us!!! i don't just want to be sitting around in our hotel the whole time. i wanna have fun, see amazing things etc.

what are some awesome places/ideas you have for us to go and see/do in Melbourne? we won't have a car but obviously willing to catch cabs, trams etc.

also a list of really fancy/nice restaurants?

we would be interested in doing anything really.. i just want it to be never forgotten and not boring!

    thanks

In St Kilda you will need to go to the beach for a start, then Acland St is a must for the cake shops, go and see a band at the Espy, go to Luna Park and on the Scenic Railway. Go tot he Stokehouse and spend the day sitting outside in the sun drinking Rent a Blue Bike and ride all the way along the Esplanade and see the Spirit of Tasmania at Station Pier. Check out South Melbourne market.

Catch a tram into the city, see the Myer Xmas Windows, do the New Years Eve Fireworks, go up the Eureka Sky deck, go shopping! Check out all the laneways and little boutique shops and bars and buskers. So many restaurants to choose from - Mo Vida, Press Club, Vue de Monde, Gingerboy, Mama Sita, Grossi Florentino to name a few. Do a chocolate tour.

Catch another tram Northside to Brunswick St and Gertrude Street in Fitzroy and check out all the hipsters and funky shops.

    PM24 is a great restaurant!

the zoo and aquarium are fun to visit, and shopping on bridge road Richmond is good.

Bourke Street in the heart of the city is good, as is Chapel Street

Book in for a tour of the MCG - or get tickets to the Boxing Day test

Do a boat cruise down the Yarra, take a picnic to the Botanical Gardens

Book a Yarra Valley winery tour

The National Gallery, Ian Potter Centre, ACMI and Museum for some cultural input
