    Swaddling

I swaddle dd and she sleeps pretty great. Talking to another mum and she said you can't swaddle when they start rolling. Is this right? I've never heard this before?

It's not so much don't swaddle completely, just don't do it so tightly or over their arms at all if you can help it. They can get stuck face-down if they roll in their sleep and can't use their arms/hands to get back over

We just left an arm out. He was fine.

My understanding was it increases the risk of them rolling into a position where it's hard to breathe and not being able to get out of it.

I had DS in an ergo cocoon swaddle that had arms clips and when he started rolling I just clipped one arm out and then a few weeks later I popped the other arm out.

He is nearly 11mnths and he still sleeps zipped in his swaddle mainly as a comfort and he is a mover when he sleeps and during the colder months it was the only way to keep a sheet on him!

I understand the logic of it. She is yet to roll herself over whilst having her arms wrapped. She seems to use them for the motion.

Sigh. She sleeps so perfectly wrapped up!! Guess I can't keep her wrapped forever!

Lol little-o I hear u! DS has always slept well swaddle or atleast zipped up in his ergo cocoon that I just don't want to not use it! Unfortunately I think we are getting close to being too long for it! But he is nearly 11 months so u can still wrap armless for months still!

I've never heard that before. I swaddled my DD2 until 13 months, both arms wrapped. My swaddling skills are not fantastic though and although I made it tight when I wrapped her, when she woke she always had her arms out.

My eldest was swaddled until at least 11 months, but then again I use swaddle blankets not cocoons..... So if my little one wriggles enough they can get their hands out.
