DP with the runs & vomiting since the 2nd

As the tittle says, my poor DP has come down with... Something.. He has had the runs (having to go at least every 15min-half hour), vomiting occasionally (maybe a total of 1-2 times a day) and bad stomach cramps.

I took him to the Dr this afternoon (after a fail attempt to be seen by a Dr in ED last night, pfft) and he said there has been a case of gastro going around town lately, usually lasting up to a week (). He suggested some "Stomach Ache & Pain Relief" tablets which don't seem to be making him feel any better in terms of the stomach cramps.
He has been eating small amounts since it started, mostly toast, and other bland foods (at my 'encouraging' hand )

But I was wondering is there anything else I/he can do to make it any better/go away faster/ease the pain? He's said that a warm/hot bath sometimes helps a little but not much and not every time. He's had 3 days off work so far from it (and we only just got back from holidays so cant really afford it but he cant work poor bugger) and is likely to have to stay home over the next few days too.

Any help would be much appreciated! xx

You can buy buscopan forte so that should help harden his poo and ease any pain in the tummy. Also hydralyte powder on drinks or icy pole form will help him keep hydrated and especially if he is pooing that frequently.. It's terrible to watch them knocked down cos they are usually pretty tough!

cut out everything but the plainest food - toast, grated green apple, water etc until he's feelimng better.

I agree with taking something if you need to go out and work/do something if you have gastro, but otherwise as unpleasant as it is, I would just let it keep going on the basis of better out than in. Lots of rest, heaps of fluids.

I hope he's feeling better soon, and that you stay bug free too

Sorry to hear your DP is still sick Whenever I have gastro (I usually get the runs but the last time I had it it was both ends, lol, sorry for TMI!) I always drink gastrolite. Helps to replenish the lost fluids. Hope that he feels better soon xx

I don't know about raspberry jam but I know raspberry cordial is good.

Buscopan should go a long way to help with the crampy spasms. Activated charcoal capsules (taken at a different time to any other meds) also help slow things down and mop up some of the germs in the gut, it also helps enormously with the gas factor.

Once the symptoms slow down, get him onto a probiotic and avoid dairy other than yoghurt - this helps with healing the gut.
