DD has been in the wars of late and I'm after some advice.
First she had an irritation "down there" so Dr advised no bubble baths and lots of barrier cream at bedtime as she still wears a night nappy so I think that is ok now but now she keeps telling me she has a sore belly. She is 4yo. I will add that she doesn't go #2 daily - more like 2 or 3 days between so I'm not sure if she just needs to go or its something else. She did a #2 yesterday but yet last night woke crying telling me her belly was sore. I gave her a little panadol in the hope her muscles would relax and she tried sitting on the toilet of her own accord about 5 times but kept saying "the poo won't come" and then of course that seemed to pass but then it turned into her scratching like crazy so out came the moisturiser and calamine. Seems like one thing after another at the moment.
Anyway does anyone have any suggestions on what the "sore tummy" might be and if it is just #2 issues then some suggestions. I tried putting infants movicol in her drink today but she instantly said it tasted funny and "it must be old Mum and i need a new one". She eats plenty of fruit and bread with grains so not sure what else to try.
My 2.5 year old often wakes with a 'sore tummy', and i'm not sure what it is either. i have wondered if it is a hungry feeling, or a #2 feeling, but not sure. don't think i helped much, sorry.
My dd was waking with a sore tummy for a while. I didn't really know what else to try until my sister suggested she might have worms. So I dosed her with stuff from the chemist - no more sore tummies.
We recently had something very similar. I thought it was a UTI, so off to the docs (we didn't have scratching, just sore tummy at night, fever and also sore wee wee and bottom). The doctor prescribed antibiotics which seemed to help (although the results of the urine test later came back as clear).......... I honestly wondered if it was actually worms, just like Marydean's situation.
Can't hurt to worm her?
As for the no 2 every couple of days, our daughter loves fresh dates...she normally has one a day, almost as a dessert. If your daughter hasn't eaten them before though, I would give them in the morning because the fresh dates can you give a bit of a tummy ache if you eat too many of them (says the voice of experience-oops!)
You can get osmolax which is the same as movicol minus the taste. It seems like she is holding on because its hurting and going around in circles. Have her drink lots of water and eat fruit but not bananas. If it keeps up go to the dr, dd was like this she had a tummy full of poo which has taken months to sort out.
My bet is on worms. They can migrate to the vagina and cause irritation and present like a UTI. They can also cause belly ache ranging from minor to severe. It is extremely easy for kids to get worms particularly if you have pets (eggs are carried in the fur) or they play in sandpits or socialize with other kids.
