i know this has probably been asked a gazzillion times, but i wanted to tailor my question so i would get exactly the right answer ( because i am lazy ha)
Exactly how long do you receive paid parental leave payments for?
do you have to work/earn a certain amount?
is it fortnightly like the baby bonus is?
"You may be eligible if you...
-have met the Paid Parental Leave work test before the birth or adoption
-have received an individual adjusted taxable income of $150 000 or less in the financial year before the date of birth or adoption or date of claim, whichever is earlier"
"To meet the Paid Parental Leave work test you must have:
-worked for at least 10 of the 13 months before the birth or adoption of your child, and
-worked for at least 330 hours in that 10-month period (just over one day a week), with no more than an eight-week gap between any two consecutive working days."
Parental Leave Pay is paid for 18 weeks at the rate of the minimum weekly wage
"Eligible working parents will receive Parental Leave Pay for a maximum of 18 weeks. If it’s not paid by your employer, then we will pay it directly to you.
If your employer is providing your Parental Leave Pay:
-they need to withhold PAYG (Pay As You Go tax withholdings) at the usual rate
-they can deduct Child Support from your Parental Leave Pay if required to do so
-they are not required to make superannuation contributions in respect of your Parental Leave Pay, but may do so if they wish to
-you will be able to access other paid leave such as maternity leave at the same time as Parental Leave Pay, but you may be taxed at a higher rate
-you may arrange for other deductions to be made from your Parental Leave Pay, and
-you may salary-sacrifice some or all of your Parental Leave Pay, through voluntary contributions to superannuation."
These arrangements (except for PAYG and Child Support deductions) will depend on what you and your employer agree on, in the same way you make agreements about wages.
