    Wedding Dress Code: Smart Formal

Hi Everyone, we are going to a wedding next month that on the invitation says dress code as being SMART FORMAL. I've heard of Formal and Smart Casual but what do you think this means as far as dressing for me? Husband will wear suit with tie and Jacket and he can always remove tie or jacket later if everyone else is more relaxed. But as a chick I have no idea what to wear. I don't know the bride only the groom, and I don't know any other women who are going so can't ask them. Thanks in advance!

I wonder if its the same as semi formal. Wikipedia gives some ideas of definitions and I noticed google brought up a dress code guide too.

I'd probably just wear a nice dress. Nothing too flashy or sparkly or anything like that, knee-ish length, but something that is pretty and comfy with low heels or wedges.

This was the dress code for our wedding. Front what I read it is basically ****tail like dresses at least knee length and anything up to maxi length. As long as it isn't too casual of a style it should be fine, and just make sure it isn't cream or white (I Had a girl at our wedding wear a cream maxi) everyone seemed to get it right at ours, though I'm not hugely observant lol. I find that no jacket is also fine for the guys, especially this time of year.

I'm the same, but I'd never wear black either (black is for funerals) and that seems OK to many these days also.

I think your plan is great, but maybe if you're unsure and DH knows the bride/groom, get him to send them a text just to check their expectations?

I'd wear a nice frock with heels, definitely suit and tie for DH if the invite says smart formal. No jacket and tie is smart casual, like you said he can always remove them if appropriate.
