    Adenomyosis/bulky uterus

My latest dx is i have a bulky uterus that feels like a 10/40 pregnancy...and they say that i probably have adenomyosis hense why all the pain and contraction type pain..

I was admitted day 2 of period on Christmas night as it was like i was in early labour and the gas wouldve been great !!

Has anyone else had this dx for them and what was the suggestions for treatment me is to have a Laproscope Hysterscope D&C and IUD inserted (but im not convinced ere the IUD)

I have adenomyosis. I was diagnosed about six years ago. The only cure is hysterectomy.

    Periods are extremely painful

as im 42 and finished having kids however having a hysterectomy is a huge op and huge recovery time and being single i could imagine it to be a nightmare ..... but this pain is a nightmare at times too so i thought i would have a D & C and see if that helps ....

I had a D&C a couple of years ago. Made no difference to pain levels for me. I can't imagine it would as adeno grows into the muscle.

Eta - yes, as I remember labour. Really sharp stabbing pain too. Like you are actually being stabbed and the knife is being twisted into your uterus.

and i cant see the Merina IUD helping at all as i would thing it would aggrevate the uterus more and plus the progesterone would no doubt make me blow up like a balloon.... they said the progesterone would settle the pain down .... so as the dr arent suggesting it do i need to say i want a hysterectomy !

If you have a bulky uterus, then you should NOT have the mirena or any IUD inserted as your uterus will be too large to keep it in place properly. I have a 12cm uterus which is absolutely normal for someone like me who has had multiple pregnancies. I also had a mirena put in and it should never have been put in for someone like me. It went entirely inside my uterus. And it would be normal for you too. A D&C will not change the size of your uterus unfortunately. I know it really really sucks, but please don't even consider a hysterectomy until you have watched this video here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q80tlNKg3p4 perhaps look at alternate therapies to try to manage the pain of your cycle. Try everything you can possibly think of first before you head down the path of organ removal.

Thanks for the link i had no idea that is eye opening and not at all inviting..... um i reckon i may just wait it out and see if the D&C works (well it did last time back in 2006) ill give the IUD a go as well as i can easily remove it .... but i have the date of procedure Jan 21 so ill talk to surgeon re the IUD ... Thansk again xx
