    Car seats after accident

How bad does the accident have to be to need to replace a baby car seat?

We got hit from behind at maybe 60 km/hr

I'd replace it. Actually the insurance should. Of the other car.

When this happened to me the insurance company replaced the seats. When we sent the car for assessment they contacted us and told us to buy new ones and they would then pay us back. I was hit from behind and the car was written off.

Yep, our car was a write off and the insurance company (AAMI) said they would replace the seats up to the value of $500

I would replace them too. General rule, I think, is 60kms and over or if the airbags deploy seats should be replaced. If you don't have insurance to cover them and they are SafenSound seats they have an accident replacement programme you can find details on the SafenSound/Britax Australia website.
