Quick easy getaway or day outing for Australia Day long weekend?

Does anyone have any ideas for a cheap, quick getaway (ie a night or two max) or fun outings in greater Sydney for this Australia Day long weekend? We have nothing booked or planned, but we are all desperately in need of a break. We have to entertain DD1 who is 6 and DD2 who is 1. We don't mind driving.

I don't want to spend a lot of money, or have to deal with long queues of traffic! Weather looks like being stormy on Saturday, but not too hot.

Possible. Might check out lastminute for cheap accommodation.

I love Mudgee. Is that too far? Just check the fire situation.

if you want a day out, you head down to the berrima australia day celebrations. Or Canberra, its the centenary of the city.

Please go bush walking. Locally. I miss that area soooo much. Or the Blue Mountains. Royal National Park. Get the train and forget traffic.

A fun and easy overnight hike is Pindar Cave.
