Have registered for the Stampede this year! Bit excited.
I gave birth 3 weeks ago, and my two fitness goals were to compete in a triathlon, and to do the Stampede. The triathlon is in May on the Gold Coast, so I start training for that pretty soon.
I did it last year (5km) and am gong the whole hog (10km) this year.
Last year the only task I didn't manage was the two rock climbing walls - I got to the top of the first one, and was about to go over, when I saw there was nothing to climb down on! It was a complete drop! But I got through the 5kms in 1hr 50mins.
I'll be heaps fitter by October, and am hoping to do everything this time.
I did 5km last year, as I was still recovering from a c-section, and was still breastfeeding and didn't fancy the thought of leaving it too long before feeds ...
This year, I've already signed up for the 10km.
As for the obstacles mummajj, they're completely doable. Some are quite physical (particularly on the 10km one) but some are just a matter of one foot in front of the other.
Difficult things are really thick mud pits you have to crawl over/through, on your hands and knees and belly, under razor wire (it's easy to get stuck in there!) and up a steep (and by the time you get to it, rather muddy) sheer wooden slope which you have to get up and over, and a couple of 2-3m high rock climbing walls, stuff involving upper body strength, and the distance, if you're not fit, etc.
Moderate things are big bales of hay and walls etc you have to get up and over, or puddles etc you have to get through without losing your shoes, and a couple of sizeable hills, etc.
One foot in front of the other things are stuff like going through a skip waist deep in ice water, ducking under or diving over strings of barrels in a small dam, through a set of tyres, a mini ropes course thing, climbing cargo nets over a bus, climbing over and through cars (including a bonnet slide), etc.
Mind over matter things are jumping over some short (in height) long (in length) fires, going through the electocute-y zappers, etc.
Definitely worth doing.
And FYI - I'm totally not a runner (I *really* dislike running) and so I walked almost the entire thing. I kept the pace up reasonably, but even at 7 months post partum, with a fair bit of baby weight still to shift, I knocked it off in under 2 hours with only two team mates. You just help each other out, and it's actually really fun.
My plan is the 10km this year, and then Tough Mudder next year (the non-summer one!). Who knows ... maybe I'll like running by then and will meet up with onyx in Canberra/Sydney for it
