New Infarix Vaccine - 6 week one

I was just looking up the compilation of the new 6 week vaccine and much to (my) horror saw they have now added the flu vax to it. Is there any way of still accessing the old one? Not that I am particularly keen on that either, but to get the pertussis and polio covered, well, yanno, choices and all...

Really - where are you seeing that info? (I used to work for company that makes it and don't remember that being on the horizon although I have been out of that world for a while - would also seem odd as flu is ever changing) - the company website consumer information leaflet for Infanrix isn't listing flu yet on it - unless you mean Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib)?

I can't find any information on adding the influenza vaccine to it. Thought it would be difficult to do anyway as the flu vaccine changes every year.

New Infarix Vaccine - 6 week one

I looked up the hib one to see what it meant and I thought it was flu as well, would be interested to know if that is wrong!

It is not the flu. It is a type of bacteria that can cause nasty meningitis, middle ear infections, pneumonia, and a horrible disease called epiglottitis. It is now rarely seen thanks to the vaccination.

this is what i was thinking too? Also I thought they had revised the flu vaccine recommendations (ie not for kids under 5 years??). must go back and check where I saw it and see the list (there were two: penta? and IPV??).

is the new version the one for the bacteria to prevent middle ear/pneumonia/meningitis? maybe?

Thanks for the extra info...i saw the new vaccine list on the fly on someone's mobile...ahh technology lol. must track it down (i am assuming it was from the normal gov health list though...).

Not sure on the flu being added.

But I have only given DD1 DTPa+Polio. That was the smallest combo I could find because I only wanted Pertussis and Tetanus. So if necessary, yes, there are other options. HTH

The two Infanrix are Hexa (Combined Diphtheria-Tetanus-acellular Pertussis (DTPa), Hepatitis B, Inactivated Poliovirus and Haemophilus influenzae type b Vaccine) and IPV (Combined Diphtheria-Tetanus-acellular Pertussis (DTPa) and Inactivated Poliovirus Vaccine)

so neither incorporate the flu vaccine, the Hexa one which is like IPV but plus Hep B and Hib is not that new either been around at least 16 months as DS has had it.

Maybe on the phone you saw influenzae and thought flu?

Ok, so I *must* be thinking of the Hexa one?? The Penta one (IPV) is the (obviously) with the 5 and the Hexa with the added Hib. What one do they give out now? I am assuming only the Hexa?

Both my other kids had the IPV. Do they need boosters to cover the other one now? I guess i should ask tomorrow at the centre ...but i much prefer asking mah ladies here on BB!

The infanrix penta is different to to IPV in that it has the DTP, polio and Hep B.
