An Aga.
Or a Rayburn.
ETA - The Rayburn can do your hot water and central heating too.
Ok so we are in the process of about to build a new home and we are wanting to know what would be a great oven to put in our kitchen. Our current one is too small and not wide enough so something of a reasonable size and quality?
TIA

I love my smeg. It's a completely sealed interior so no escaping heat
Also as an FYI...don't bother getting 900 wide for the space. Most 750wide are the same size as a 900wide. You just pay extra for the wider fascia!
St George ovens are the shizzle!
Would die for an Aga. Not necessarily the most practical of ovens for the modern Australian home though... LOL I was going for practical functionality over sheer awesomeness.
The St George's are the largest ovens you can get (interior space), and totally Australian owned and designed and to top it off, they are all *handmade*. Every oven I have ever had worth its salt has been a St George, they are fabulous.
Can you tell I love St George ovens?![]()

I have a Bosch. IMO not as good as the Neff I used to have.
my new one is a fisher paykell and its awesome!
its self cleaning, and has draws rather than racks so its heaps easier to get stuff out of it.
and the best part?
its massive!
if had a bigegr budget i would have gone for a miele, LOVED them!
I had a 900mm Ilve!!! LOVED IT! Was huge and efficient and lovely!!!!
We actually do have a 900 wide smeg oven. It is awesome and definitely much bigger. We had Christmas at our house a couple of years ago and managed to cook 2 chickens, a turkey roll and two big trays of veggies all at the same time!
Oh, and I've found that it the best oven I've ever had in terms of being able to cook things at the exact temp and time a recipe says rather than having to adjust things according to my oven.
Agas and rayburns have more than one oven so you can bake multiple items at different temperatures
Just sayin'![]()
Maybe the total space is similar but it has more usable space? All I know is we can fit two regular size oven trays on each of the two shelves. However, I will say that there isn't much space between each of the shelves, so if you were cooking lots of 'tall' things you probably wouldn't be much better off. (I think we brought ours in 2010 - it was the 'old' model so we got it really cheap).
I love my oven too![]()
I've got a 60cm Miele in my new kitchen and it is just the bestest ever. He cleans himself, adds water if I want a bit of a moisture function, is capable of coking at very low temperatures so he's a slow cooker too.
In my last house I had a 90cm Ilve and I can get just as much into my Miele. I originally chose the 90cm oven because I thought it would get me so much more space (and its one of the biggest in terms of litres on the market), but it became one of those things that once you put say a roasting dish in, there wasn't really room next to it for a casserole dish with the cauliflower cheese say, so something to bear in mind if you want more space. I've also had a smeg in the past too and didn't like that one at all.
Subbing as we are about to do a kitchen Renno on our new place![]()
We are building for the second time and we are going with double Electrolux ovens this time. A friend who cooks cakes professionally just put them in her kitchen and raves about them so I'm thrilled. I can't remember the size off the top of my head (600 or 700) but they're two full sized wall ovens with one set of controls above the top oven.
We had a 900mm Westinghouse in the last place we built and I don't think I'd go 900 again. There is actually a lot of wasted spaces, even if your oven is 'full' as the oven trays aren't the same size (length) as the racks and there is spare rack space which can't easily be filled (unless you've got skinny trays or dishes that fill the gap perfectly, I didn't). They're a lot of oven to heat up if you're only cooking something small too. Hence why I opted for twin ovens this time. We had issues with the seal on our 900mm Westinghouse too which turned me off that brand. Although I think Electrolux and Westinghouse are actually made by the same company!
I joined Choice Online to get the dirt on all the household goods. It's been a good little (cheap) investment. I did the same when we built our last place. You can purchase the individual reviews too if you don't want to sign up for all the reports.
