So DD stared Kindy (NSW) today. All went well no tears etc which I thought would be the case. Anyway, we got the results of the Best Start Assessment in a envelope in DD's bag this afternoon.
Does any one who got it understand it. Well, I understand it but I have no idea where she sits ie below ave or average. I know these things are generic in their comments, but some idea of where she is would be nice. I would like to know what areas to help her in. I will speak to the Teacher (although I have to figure out which one yet, there are three) and I am sure she wil explain it to me. I just thought it may be better to have a bit of a guide for us new parents as to what the results mean.
I'm in the ACT and we have PIPS instead. My understanding is that it is more for the teachers so they know where everyone is at and they can identify gifted students and the ones who will need extra assistance.
Yep, don't be too worried about it. It's just to identify exactly what your child can or cannot do at that point in time. It's just one of the many diagnostic tools that schools use to find out what abilities the kids have and they use that information to make sure they are where they need to be and being taught what they need, if that makes sense. Kinda like helping them to tailor learning to your child. Here is the parent info that you should have gotten to help you understand it better
