Has anyone had a mole checked out in a child and was it taken seriously by your GP? DS2 has one that until a month ago looked like a regular freckle on top of his ear. It's now much larger, raised, peeling and painful but still fairly symmetrical. I'm getting it checked tonight but I know problems with moles are very rare, but not impossible, before the age of 20. I'd much rather it was removed jic rather than left because he is young because it looks like if it's not a problem now then it will be in the future. Does anyone have any experience with this?
one was on my back/neck and the other on my front of my neck, I didn't like the look of them (was getting teased as well) and the dr didn't like how they were exposed all the time so he agreed to remove them. This was my family GP who had treated us since birth.
ok thanks ladies. My GP is a bit rubbish but can usually be gently nudged towards the treatment or referral I want so I'll just ask for it to be removed. It's on the top of his ear and as well as looking unsightly and causing him pain, his ears protrude a bit so if he wears a baseball cap they stick out and hence it gets the sun. I'm trying to remind him to wear a wide brimmed hat all the time but he likes to look a bit trendy and is fighting me on this
Get an appointment ASAP at a skin cancer / mole scan clinic. We go to one each year and I had DD1's checked at the last visit. She has a few big ones on her scalp which really worried me. Our GPs had given her the all clear several times but it was nice to hear it from a skin cancer specialists.
