Hi everyone! As the title suggests, it's that time! I have to fully baby proof our home!
DD is now 14.5 months and getting into everything. She isn't walking as yet by herself but manages to pull herself up onto everything and anything. Getting so adventurous!
Im looking for tips on what you did to baby proof your home for your baby. I've got a few gadgets already for draws and cupboards.
My main concern is for the kitchen. Im in it alot cooking meals and DD loves to follow me. I can't put a baby gate there due to the structure of our kitchen.
I have already latched the draws and cupboards and looking to purchase a latch for the fridge soon.
We have baby gates up in the laundry, and front (adults) room. Leaving free range to the hallways, study, playroom and spare room, and of course her room. When it comes to TT she will go to the toilet in our ensuite as she has free range to that too!
Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :-)
I can't really help because we only have a gate across our laundry to stop DD3 getting into the cat litter!
Everything else is ok for her to get into, drawers etc in the kitchen - cos if she's playing in the cupboards or drawers, she's not hanging off my legs
We have our sharp knives on the bench though - so while we don't "baby proof" our home, we have stuff that they could hurt themselves with up and out of their reach. Although sometimes the bigger ones get a chair and push it over to where they want something.... but I'm usually pretty good at catching them doing something they aren't supposed to....
Pretty much all we did was put some latches on some cupboards that contain chemicals, put plugs in power points and made sure knives and glass bowls in the kitchen were up high. Apart from that we've taught DD1 not to touch some things (eg wine racks, alcohol racks) and taught her to be careful around table edges where she could bang get head (to the point she now says 'careful' to us...).
EDIT - we can't put gates on our kitchen either. When I'm cooking I generally put on the TV or she plays with toys or she will raid the utensils drawer (her fave option).
Chody, when im cooking DD usually goes straight to the oven (it fascinates her, don't ask why coz I don't know! Lol) And she gets in the draws and cupboards, and she hasn't yet remembered that slamming fingers in doors and draws isn't cool... Which is why they are latched :-)
DD won't sit still in one place while the TV is on. Even if Dora is on lol. Plus I don't like her watching a lot of TV.
ETA... And we have our sharp knifes in a knife block on the bench too. Way out of reach!
havent read replies. but our kitchen you cant gate off so our alternative was having a Spock cupboard. its just our plastics cupboard but everythibg in there is safe so if she insists on 'helping' us with tea we just open that cupboard and it keeps her amused
