Treadmill or eliptical machine? Hire vs buy

I'm thinking about cancelling my gym membership and hiring one of these machines for a while. It means I can do more at home as I'm finding it hard to get out of the house atm to go to the gym and dh can use it at well. I want it for fat burning and weightless. Which one do you think. Has anyone hired a machine like this? Where from?

I'd go the treadmill that way you can walk, run do both and change the incline. Not sure as to hire vs buy. We purchased ours and have never hired anything so can't really comment on that.

I love love love my elliptical machine.

I bought it just from Sportsmart - I should have shopped around, but didn't. I negotiated some freebies (a step, a mat, some weights) instead of negotiating down the price, but I should have done both, and shopped around more.

I got a treadmill through Certergy, which is no interest. We pay about $60 a month on it over 24 months. I love it and it gets loads of use between me and the teenagers.
