Just wondering does anyone know what I can take for blocked and very sore sinus, whilst bf? My head feels like it's going to explode, well my face does anyway, and I just feel so crap because of it. I've had it for days, it's starting to get too much now. Many thanks.
You can try a non medicated saline spray- use in the shower for best results but also if you really need it at several times a day. I can't think of the name of the one I use but it's great.
You can use certain medicated nasal sprays according to the Women and Children's breastfeeding and medication helpline (Adelaide). I called them before but I can't remember which one I was using sorry. Give them a call they are really helpful
Get yourself a decent sinus rinse, it helps a lot. I suffer terribly all year round but especially while pregnant - it seems to happen for no apparent reason! The sinus rinse worked wonders.
I might try and get something today while i am out, I just wish I had some panadol before I left the house . My face aches on the left side, cheekbone, plus the roof of my mouth, my jaw, and it seems even my teeth. But only on the left side! It reminds me of what I used to think was wisdom teeth pain, but I got them out, so now i feel really confused. And in pain.
Sounds like a full on sinus infection. You may actually need antibiotics. Is be inclined to go to the GP today. You poor thing. As a long sufferer of all things allergy and sinusey (lol), I feel your pain!
Boo hoo! I read this now, after I've just got home! Waaaaaa........ Oh well, I was too tired to stay in town any longer! I got a vicks nasal inhaler, and a chemist nasal spray, after speaking to the pharmacist. I'll see how I go, maybe I will have to go tomorrow. I am utterley exhausted at the moment, so will have a nap and then .... who knows.
The sinus rinse works the best it's what my ent got me to use after surgery. I also take curcumin tablets (cumin) but not sure if they are safe for bfing.
I wish, wish, WISH I had gone to the dr last week. I don't remember being so sick, aside from being dehydrated during pg with Mack. The Man made me a coffee this morning when i got up, but instead went back to bed. I am going to go to the dr tomorrow, DEFINITELY, I just needed a bit of a whinge. I am in so much pain
Ok. So I'm over my whinge from last night. Went to the Dr this morning... He's given me a script for a nasal spray, panadeine forte, and amoxil. And sent me off for a ct scan of my sinus... Okaaay... I had really just thought that my crappy sinus' were something that I had to deal with, like having to blow my nose every morning after getting out of bed, being that they have not being "normal" for a longer than the last twelve years. I got my wisdom teeth out a few years ago, because I thought they were giving me terrible pain, but I am now starting to think that it was more my sinus. Hey, don't get me wrong, I'm glad to have had my wisdoms out, but it's a lot of years suffering down the wrong track. My ct is on Thursday, and my appointment back at the dr some days after that, so we'll see how I go. I really do hope that this may get a solve, and maybe I will even get less migraines, as they often seem to start on that side of my face. That is all.
Glad the gp gave you some scripts to help, hopefully they kick in soon. I suffer from terrible hay fever and have constant sinus infections whilst pregnant, they're incredibly painful so I feel your pain. I definitely find resting helps, thogh i know much easier said than done when looking after young children. I'm sure you do anyway but I also avoid reading or screen based activities (TV, computer etc) as I find the strain causes pressure, and a good old fashioned eucalyptus steam (head over bowl with a tiny dash of eucalyptus oil in boiling hot water) helps too.
I hope your scan is helpful, I'm curious to see what course of action they recommend afterwards!
Thanks ladies, I hope I can get some answers on this too!
I can't get the scripts filled until later in the week when I have some money ( ), so will be putting up with things as they are for now. I had noticed that the television was a bit aggravating, thanks. I don't really have the opportunity to have a steam with Mack, but I will really try to do that.
I wish I could have had a rest today. I was seriously contemplating picking up the kids early because I am just so tired. Instead I have been in the library for most of it, just to escape the heat.
I'm sorry you're suffering with this. I actually meant to reply when you first posted but forgot oops!
But you could try (as I think was already mentioned) a medicated nasal spray which needs no prescription and isn't very expensive. I had a truely horrible sinus infection when ds2 was only a few months old & fully bf, I put up with it for ages and tried many natural methods and couldn't get rid of it. When I finally saw my gp he said to try the spray and it was wonderful! He also said the bizolvon (sp?) I'd been taking wouldnt hurt and should help loosen (my thinking in the first place lol). Just also try and spend a lot of time with your head down because that's the way the sinuses need to be to drain fully you may already know, a book or even laptop on the floor between feet works quite well. PS lots and lots of fluids so any mucous there won't be so thick.
Hope you find some relief really soon!
