    Here we are again

Its been a while since I had a winge about DD3's sleeping. We were away for 2 months, so I assumed it'd all settle when we got home & I could try getting her off the bottle. What was I thinking?

We only have a bottle because after 8 weeks of my 2 year old screaming I needed sleep & the bottle brought it back to me.

3 or so months later she's still waking 2 - 3 times a night for a bottle AND leaking nappies to make even the heaviest wetter's embarrassed.
I put a huggies on her before bed. I change it at her midnight wake up & am lucky if it hasn't already started to leak. By the time she's up in the morning there's at least a small patch on the bed.
I can't do cloth with her, no matter how I tried when she was little she had a rash. I'm actually using them occasionally through the day, since I can't afford to keep up with nappies (with her mostly TT through the day) and the rash is straight back. Not on her bits, high on her back side.

She never had leaking nappies on the boob. Even if she woke every hour! Her bottles are 1/2-3/4 water though. Less than half milk.

I just want a break. My washing machine is dead. So paying for a laundromat once a week on top of the milk & nappy usage is sending me extremely broke If I get more washing than that its the bath, the hose, or it just waits. Hosing sheets every day isn't much fun :/ And it looks like another 2 - 3 weeks minimum before I'll have a washing machine.

So what do I do? Besides risking months of screaming, with no sleep to get rid of the bottle? Tonight she did only have half left by the time she settled & survived the 20 minutes after it was gone with out too much fuss, before she fell asleep, but this isn't the first time I've tried to refuse her. With 3 other kids in the house & just me to deal with all of it, I'm just going with what I hope is the easiest option... And its not so easy!

That's sounds rough. I hope it improves soon for you. My children both go to bed with a pop top water. That is there drink in the night they don't need to wake me to drink it. I would tell her for a few nights what's going to happen. Now that your a big girl you will be able to have a special water bottle ....... Something like that after a few days of explanation I'd then implement and maybe a reward chart. I think you said she is 3 star charts can be quite good my 3 yr old dd has also recently just started to stay in her bed all night by doing the same. Hope it gets better for u

For DD1 here at the same age, it really just came down to us learning the word no.
She had a small cup with some water only in it, and that was it. We had tears and carry on for about a week, then she got the picture and the only time that changes even now, is if it is stinking hot overnight or if she is sick.
I think you just need to put your foot down.

I have a similar two-year-old and I can't face trying to reason her during the night when I know in my DD2's case, she's hungry.

Does she have much dinner? DD2 is a very fussy eater so now I just give her what I know she will eat for dinner which more often than not is plain pasta and a banana (there is always other food on the table that she is encouraged to try). If she has a decent dinner, she sleeps through. If not, she will drink a LOT of milk before bedtime and wake during the night. Some nights she would go through 750ml of milk which is crazy.

You can get special sheets that go over normal bedclothes - not sure I'm allowed to post the brand name but PM me if you're interested. They hold a lot of pee and it saves you washing all the bedding. You may be able to get them on eBay or someone on BB might have some they no longer use.

I know what it is like to just do what works so you can get some scrap of sleep to function on. My DS went to sleep with a milo bottle for a while and we would give him another when he woke during the night because it worked. It rotted his teeth a bit, but they are practice ones right? lol, we had to survive.

I have heard of people lining the nappies with cheap sanitary or incontinence pads to add absorbency, or to double nappy with holes in the bottom of the first nappy so some drains into the second.

I would second Fiona's idea about the food - my DD2 tends to sleep (slightly) better if I give her something to eat right before bedtime - yoghurt or a banana usually.

Hugs hun. I too, know the do what you have to to get as much sleep as possible routine.

I don't have much to offer other than maybe give her one of the smaller bottles, not the bigger (I think) 200ml but the smaller 125ml (??) ones with half milk half water.

And what about a cloth nappy cover over the nappy, or some woolen covers?

LS - if it was that simple I wouldn't be here. I weaned her from the breast at 23 months. For 8 weeks she screamed & we maybe had 3 hours sleep a night some nights. I tried for 8 weeks. It didn't end. Thats the only reason I brought in the bottle to start with. She was hungry as well. I was making her weetbix at 3am. Then one night it was 11pm. It was the next night I started the bottle coz I didn't know what else to do.

Fionas - She actually eats pretty well at dinner time most nights. Some nights aren't so great, but most of the time she eats quite well. And we have dinner around 7, then bed at 8, so there's not much time between dinner & bed.
And if its brolly sheets you're talking about, 1, I don't have that kind of money atm & 2, they still need washing. I still have no washing machine :/

Danita - I won't do pop tops again. I used them for DD2, who was similar & they wore her teeth down. But she was different & often had watered down juice too. DD3 usually drinks til she's ready for sleep, then hands it over.

I will try a fleece cover over the nappy. See how it goes. Was going to last night, but forgot. I'm down to 3 sposies to last til friday... 2lt milk to last til Friday, & thats for all of us, not just DD. (DD usually goes through close to a ltr a day herself).

Well last night we lost the bottle while out. So we went to bed with a sippy cup. We survived!
She did probably wake 5 times, but rather than drink half or more of a bottle, it was a few sips & back to sleep. Not sure if she'll stop waking so frequently, but its slowed her intake for the night.
Hoping tonight is the same, or better.

OMG, so last night, we didn't even do the cup. We took it to bed & it did take her a while to settle, but by the time she was ready for sleep the 'shake' was gone & I refused to get another one. She went to sleep without it. Then woke 3 times I think, & I went in & she just put her hand down my shirt (as she still does when tired ) & went back to sleep. The first time she woke was only 10, then 10.20, so I thought there was no way it was going to work.

6am she woke & I let her have some milk & water in her cup, in case she was thirsty & let her in my bed. Had a few sips & straight back to sleep!

Maybe it's going to be ok? Bring on the sleep through!! (One can dream )

    Waaa! clover you poor ducky.
I hope she keeps getting better with the sipper cup.
It gives me faith that I may be able to change with dd.
She is 21mth. Has a bottle at bedtime- 7pm, a bottle at 11pm and we have just dropped the 5am bottle to be hungry and grumpy at 7am.

She wakes a lot more then that and I too would like a solid few hours unbroken sleep. I am starting to ignore her noises at night. She's in my room in a bed so I just make soothing noises and try leave her. Occasionally I have told her to be quiet and go back to sleep - it worked

Would she pee pee in a potty if you woke her to during the night.

hope you can get some solid sleep soon. and your not alone in this

I am so sorry you are having all these issues
I might have a solution to the leaking nappies. I think Huggies changed the way they make up the nappies ie they use a cheaper material now and they are not as absorbant. They were leaking all the time with DS, even after a 3hr nap. I swapped to babylove and we have had no issues! Perhaps try another brand? You can get free samples sent out to you to try out before you buy a whole pack. Also going up a size can help.

A friend said the same thing last night mel_cur. Her DD is in babylove & she drinks the same as DD, but they've never had a problem with leakage. I actually sent a complaint into Huggies when they started leaking. They sent me a free packet, but we had the same problem, so I assumed it was just DD. Hopefully now her intake is down, the wet nappies should drop off too.

Clover my DD (who doesn't have any drinks during the night) was also wetting through her huggies. So we got the next size up, just for night time, and that solved the problem. Might be worth trying?

My dd has been doing the same recently! Wetting right through both huggies and aldi nappies - and we've never had a problem before! Weird..
Hope you're making some headway with dd clover
