VBA3C in Newcastle, taree, port maquarie area

    Hi,
    background info
Unfortunatly i have had to have 3 c-sections in the past, my boys are nearly 8, 3 and nearly 2.
The 1st C-section was purely because i was young and naive and believe the OB when he said you'll never push a postier baby out naturally. 2nd was a mix of downcomings, i was Aiming for a VBAC with a supporting OB but dislocated my ankle, pulled all my tummy and groin muscles and then got servre pitting oedena from my toes to my groin, and he was measing big, choice to have a c-section. and 3rd was only 14months from the last and dr didnt want to risk it at all.
now years on i regret it so much, feel like i missed out on some special motherhood initiation... yeah yeah i know it hurts!
Im an EEN studying to be an RN and work in a tiny rural hospital and have delivered babies, so i realise birth is painful.

    My question is
DH and i would like to try for baby #4, but i need a VBAC, i cant explain how much i want it. I have lost 30kgs since falling pregnant with DS#3.
i i live in a small rural town i cant birth here as they have only very low risk as no surgery/complication back up or pain relief options. and only 1 OB in the town not always reachable, as well as midwives not always reachable either... I would have to birth at taree, port maquarie or newcastle. I called JHH in newcastle and the midwife straight out said no dr here will accept you for a VBA3C!!! no way no chance! too bad....
    im heartbroken....
Im after suggestions or reccomendations for OBGyN's or Independednt Midwives.... anything....

    Thanks Krissy

They used to have a really good OB at JHH - but he moved to Sydney I believe. Would you be open to the idea for a homebirth?

Yeah Dr Bisits. i have spoken to him and got some names for JHH.. so hope they r supportive
I actually live in a small rural town and am 1-2 hours away from a large hospital where they have surgery options should anything go wrong. that along is why i wont be having a homebirth, however to do plan to labour at home till im at least 1/2 way.

Oh ok. Good luck with the names that he has given you! Another option is hiring an independent midwife to support you in hospital, at least you would have continuous care with the same person, and know they support your wishes

Can you call the meternity ward/labour ward at your hospitals of choice & ask them for advice on Obs who might support your VBAC wishes?

Is there a birth centre in Newcastle anywhere? I know there's one further up the coast, near Coffs, but don't know whats down south.

I might have some info that might help... will go through my fb messages & pm you later tonight. Sorry, on my way out.

Thanks that would be great clover

There is a birthing centre at newy but they are EXTREEMLY strict who they allow in, only very low risk mums.
I am hiring a doula that specializes in VBACs, am also looking into a IM too.
Not sure if I'll tell DH about the birthing centre near coffs he would LOVE to move there

Didn't realize moving to this town would limit my options so much.
I have an appointment with my old OB, where I used to live on Wednesday, he came from Newcastle so hope he can help too.
    Thanks for all the advice.
I feel that knoweldge is power and I want to go into this pregnancy with both those things

Yeah it sucks that birth centres take low risk patients only. I had my vba2c in a birth centre however it was an independent one - so not affiliated with a hospital and staffed by independent midwives. There needs to be more of them Australia wide!

Definitely do your research - and you are in with a good shot

I'm sorry, I've been back through my fb messages with the friend I got the name from & they don't go back far enough. She's just lost her bub at 20 weeks, so I don't really want to ask again right now... I passed the info onto a BB member (3 years ago I think), but all those messages are deleted too.

I will see what else I can do. If you have the chance, BB member Lisa may still have the info. I know she's still around Pretty sure the name/number I had was for someone up in the ranks for HB/midwifery in the area. She might hopefully have the low down on the obs in the area & where you may be able to get your vba3c.

Kelly might know too (Bellybelly). I think it was Julie something. Sorry!!
