Ive been to Fiji twice now - its nice and close, so its cheaper to get to ($159 when on sale), 5 hour flight, cheap to get accom and food, and people who have travelled all over the world will tell you that Fijians are the nicest, loveliest people in the world. They are awesome and LOVE kids and babies. Great packages on the travel online site, which has lots of options to add in and no commission fees etc. Happy to go into more detail if you like

What about the top end of Qld. We went to Mossman, Wonga Beach and Daintree & many other places which were all really interesting. Also cairns has alot of areas for couples & families. I love along that coastline as there is so much to see and enjoy.

We have been to Fiji, NZ, Malaysia and Europe with the kids and just got back a couple of days ago from Singapore. It depends what you are after.

Singapore was fantastic - so many things to do - The Zoo, Universal Studios, Legoland in Malaysia (a day trip away), Singapore Flyer. But it wasn't a relaxing holiday - we were on the go non stop and the humidity slowed us down a bit. Would certainly go back again.

A couple of years ago we went to Kota Kinabulu in Sabah, Malaysia. Flights weren't long, resort was great and kid friendly and it was a nice relaxed holiday. Again there are still things to do eg zoo, another day trip out to see the orang-u-tans in their natural habitat. We hung by the pool a lot which was what we needed. Fiji was much the same. Not much shopping in KK or Fiji whereas you are spoilt for choice in Singapore

Campervanning around NZ is great fun. Kids loved it, especially the South Island - but you need more then a week or two to do that. Unless you flew straight into somewhere like Queenstown and spent a week there?

    Hope that helps.

    Any constraints at all?
What do you want to do during your holiday? There are so many different types of holiday. If you're one of those people who like to lie down beside a pool for a week then your idea of a good holiday is probably vastly different than mine. I need to do 'stuff' so I can't stand resorts.

France. France is a wonderful place for children. Drool worthy shop windows, museums aimed at the small person demographic (the science museum in Paris is fabulous), great food, beaches, mountains.....

Stradbroke Island - we took our boys camping there and they loved it so much we're going back. We spotted dolphins, turtles and rays as well as the usual beachy animals. There is snorkling, fishing, swimming (lake and sea) and sea kayaking. And a car ferry!!

Skiing - anywhere with snow on hills is awesome Germany and Austria have gingerbread houses. There are a billion articles online about the most family friendly ski resorts.

Thailand has elephants and monkeys. They both talk about the elephants.

Well, money is the main constraint really.
We're not into lying by the pool, no. We would love to do a Europe trip. Would have to save up for a while to do that, though. Stradbroke island sounds good! I guess the kids would enjoy something like that.
Everything is so far from here

    Fiji sucked.

Love Cambodia, Malaysia (Kota Kinabulu, Sabah). Enjoyed Hong Kong, Singapore, Vietnam but this was all pre-kids.

How about a cruise? They are really good value and have heaps of things for kids to do.

We've been to Fiji but it was pre kids and from here its a nightmare journey considering there are similar options of tropical paradise islands much closer to us

We've done Singapore and Hong Kong with the girls (pre DD3) and they were both fantastic. Singapore we combined with Club Med on Bintan Island so had the lying by the pool/beach component but it was more being jumped on in the pool by the girls, building sandcastles etc. Singapore was full on with zoos, marine park, cable car rides etc. Club Med or similar is a fantastic option because they really do look after the kids and work hard to make things interesting for them and as we all know, if the kids are happy and having fun, its so much more fun for us.

Hong Kong was fantastic - girls were 3.5 and 2.5 when we went - and we went to Disneyland, Ocean Park as well as ferry rides, the huge cable car, lots of parks, teddy bear factory etc.

Both places were great with kids - very easy to get around, food is easy, medical services are very good and the travel time from Perth is not insurmountable.

If you were wanting to go further then I can't help with anything Europe-wise but the US is great with kids, and with the every strengthening Aus dollar a pretty reasonably priced destination

Last year I took DD to Fiji & it was fantastic, heaps to do in the resort & every couple of days we did tours or got the resort to organise a car & driver & we went into town. All up it cost just under $6000 (flights, accommodation, food & activities - if i went again i would get a package with food included) but that was us being extravagant. As a single mum I was nervous about traveling on our own but everyone was helpful. I only used kids club once but DD enjoyed it. And the ****tail menu was fun to work my way through

Fiji can suck if you dont do research. I always thoroughly research holidays (and where to eat) on Trip Advisor and no matter where I go I have great experiences. Where did you stay HotI?

We were considering cairns and surrounding areas but estimated Travelling for ten days would cost 5k which was a bit too much for us.

We have been to Thailand and loved it, also the US but it was pretty expensive by the time we'd finished.

I'm interested in why Fiji didn't work hotI. It's been in my list for a while.
