Rent assistance can I get if I only claim Fam tax as lump sum?
Hi
just wondering if I would still be eligible for rent assistance as we only claim family tax A & B at tax time as our incomes change too much throughout the year.
Also, we have just sold our home and will be renting until our new home is built. Will centrelink look at the money we made from our sale of the house and say we cant get any because of that?
What are the income limits for rent assistance, I looked on the website and couldnt find it?
Sorry I can't help Razzberry. But I would imagine if you have just sold a house then maybe not. It is my understanding that rent assistance is more for when you are struggling financially to pay rent on your income alone.
If your primary place if residence is a rental then you may be eligible for rental assistance. If you do a stand alone claim for ftb each year you may not be eligible for rent assistance as you generally need to be active on the system for it to be payable. If you are active on the system but claiming nothing until tax time (automatic reconciliation) it may be payable in a lump sum.
Income limits vary depending on number of children, whether you are single or partnered etc....
Thanks BG, yes we are active on the system but just choose not to get it until tax time. Where can I find the income limits for rent assistance? Married with 2 kids.
There isn't a specific table online as paying rent alters ftba as well as rent assistance. Sorry - to print a table with all scenarios would be too complex...
