    Fever after 12mth immunisation

My 13mth old son had his 12mth needles today. I have taken his temp tonight and it was 38.9. He's been given panodol and nurofen during the afternoon/night. At what stage should I be concerned about his fever where I should seek medical attention?

Fever for one to two days following vaccination is a pretty common reaction and is generally advised to treat with panadol when needed.

But I reckon whenever you feel unsure, it's more than AOK to call your GP and get some reassurance. It never hurts to ask IYKWIM xx

Thanks. He's been restless during the night, quiet lethargic too. Took his temp again and was 39.0. Ended up ringing health direct and because his breathing was quiet heavy and fast they suggested we see a doc so we are now waiting too see one at the hospital. Hate seeing him sick but panadol is only taking the edge off for about an hour or so.

Really hope he is okay *hug*

DD ran temps for the whole week after her 12 month needles, but was happy so we let it run its course - had a quick check up at GP but other than temp all was okay.

Hope your lil one perks up soon and be sure to update us on how he is.

Thanks ladies. He ended up perking up heaps while we were waiting at the hospital, his temp came down and breathing returned to normal so after sitting waiting for 2hrs I decided to bring him home back to bed. He seems fine during the day but gets real bad at night with his peak in temps and now has a rash. Just going to see how he goes over the next 24hrs and if its all still there I'm going to take him back to the GP.
