    Heavy bleeding/mucus plug/bloody show?!?

**Long TMI post apologize in advance!**
    Hi!
This morning after dp and I Dtd, I went to the bathroom and the toilet was filled with bright bright red blood and LOTS when i wiped. I'd say about as much as a normal period.
Thought I'd make Ds breakfast and do a few things to see if it settled down before calling hospital, and when I went to the bathroom about an hour later there were clots ranging from maybe match head size to thumb size and still bleeding. Still bright red. Have been slowly losing mucus plug (actual mucus with small streaks of blood) over the past week - but not this!!!

Called and went into hospital and they monitored bubs and did an internal where the dr had to keep swabbing me and removing lots of clots so she could actually see what was going on, and eventually said that it was my bloody show...because some of it was a bit sticky...

Have changed pad 3 times today and this is nothing like what happens with Ds. His was just mucus streaked with a little blood - mainly mucus - not bright red blood that's a bit sticky and he was born within 4-5 hours of seeing it.

Should it be this heavy, bright red, clotted and still going (from 7am - 4.30pm so far)? Has anyone had this before? How long after did you have bubs? Was everything ok??
I know the hospital l&d was busy cause I had to wait in their tea room for an hour while they found a bed before they started doing anything...could they have missed something?

    Heavy bleeding/mucus plug/bloody show?!?

Wen I had my DD. I had brown blood the night before and then went into labour the next afternoon as lost my MP when I was 7cm dilated .. I then had a bleed not long after , I remember them saying it was something to do with havin a very short cord on the placenta which was true ..
I'm not sure if this is normal or how much blood is normal , I know it can normal to lose your MP weeks before labour even.. What did the hospital say ?

It's bright bright red and lots like a period :-( that's why it's bothering me. Thought mucus plug and bloody show were just a little blood mixed with mucus.

Hospital said it was bloody show, but it doesn't feel right...as in the amount...and bleeding all day.

    Heavy bleeding/mucus plug/bloody show?!?

Baby's moving, my stomach feels pretty normal, I've had pain in my hips, right side and a stitch like pain on the lower left side is my abdomen just above my pubic bone.
    No contractions to note of.
I told them all of that when I went in earlier but it didn't change what they thought :-( dr felt around my stomach and said its still soft (?) and the midwife nodded and said well that's good (?)
    Lol.

I had this with DS. I was fortunate I was in hospital when it started, straight after a s&s. It was different to a show and even they were confused about it as it was a lot of blood, really runny and no mucous. They changed te pad obn the bed a couple of times. I had to stay for more monitoring and bub was fine so they concluded it must have been a show. I had my baby boy in my arms about 15 hours later.

I think the sheer fact that this is worrying you means that it requires a second professional opinion, it certainly would for me, reassurance is priceless. Perhaps they missed something the first time, perhaps a very small haemorraghe/eruption (sp?). Go with your gut instinct, be safe rather than sorry.

    Heavy bleeding/mucus plug/bloody show?!?

I don't want to scare you or anything but please, PLEASE call the hospital back now!!

Bleeding at any stage of pregnancy is not normal. The fact the you are having to change pads is abnormal to me.

Did they did an ultrasound when you went in?

    Heavy bleeding/mucus plug/bloody show?!?

Just got home from hospital, called and went back an hour or so after posting this, had bloods and a swab taken and will be going back early tomorrow morning for an ultrasound.
Drs and midwife were much more thorough this evening and explained things better.
Suggested I stay the night, which I wasn't too keen on, but they were ok with that and just told me what to look out for and stressed I come in if anything changes. (said they wouldn't do anything tonight anyway, would just be to monitor bleeding, and get blood results back which they can call and it'll take me 15mins to be there anyway, and bubs hb and moments are perfectly fine)
Dr said bleeding had seemed to have stopped and the clots were just what was sitting up high inside and not so much bright red fresh as what was before.
She couldn't see where the blood was coming from, hence the ultrasound, said it could be from a spot on the cervix, placenta, or uterine wall, but unlikely to be bloody show....as there was just too much blood.

    Heavy bleeding/mucus plug/bloody show?!?

Conversation with the hospital when I called to find out my appt for ultrasound this morning went something like this.

Me: hi just calling to find out when my appt for ultrasound is today.
Nurse: sure. Let me check. Nope can't seem to find the request, are you sure it was for today?
Me: yes. I was up at birth suite twice yesterday, and they said it would be today.
Nurse: ok, how far along are you?
    Me: 38 weeks
Nurse: why are you getting the ultrasound?
Me: I had heavy bleeding all day yesterday
Nurse: ....oh...so you had your bloody show? I don't think you need an ultrasound for that. You should be fine, just sit back and wait for things to happen and call back....ok?
*nurse nearly hanging up on me*
Me: no....it wasn't a bloody show. It was heavy bright red bloods with large clots, all day.
Nurse: so a few teaspoons through the day you think?
Me: no...I'd say a few cups. Changed a pad every 1 1/2 to 3 hours...
Nurse: oh. Well, I'll see what's going on then and call back.

    ...2 hours later.....

That's awful ! Call back and demand an answer .. If you are concerned you have a right to be seen to , sure it may be just your show but you can't be sure , and have a right to be treated ..
How are you feeling otherwise ? Any pains , how's the bleeding now ?

it is your and your babies life! Id be up at the hospital sitting there annoying them lol.... or ringing around the local private ultrasound practices to see who could get you in today for an emergency ultrasound amd then harrassing the maternity ward for the request form lol. Im a total PITA for the medical profession though because I just dont trust them. Trust your mumma instincts and good luck hun x
