Hawaii: Waikiki accom and Big Island activities

Right, the trip is booked, including my MIL tickets so we can actually sorta have a holiday.

I'm wondering if anyone had any accommodation recommendations for Waikiki Beach? I'm thinking condo style but am open to suggestions. Anyone heard anything about the Outriggers there?

Also, any suggestions for toddler friendly activities on the Big Island would be great. My boys will be nearly 4 and 2.5 when we go.

    Thanks!

We stated at Hilton Hawaiian village, which was great- in Oahu. Mind you we were on our honeymoon so we spent a little more, but they have 7 towers so prices vary.
It has its own beach, it's close by the major shopping centre and close but far enough from the main streets - not that they are crazy. Just traffic factor.
LOVED Hawaii - safe clean cheap( food wise and meals are big enough to share!) great shopping!
My close friend is currently there with her DH and 3 yr old. They have just finished the volcano tour - bit sure where they have been staying on the big island.
OMG I could go on forever about it! PM me if you want more info!
    Did I mention the shopping????!!!

We stayed at Outrigger on the Reef 2 weeks ago, it was great! There are 2 Outrigger hotels - On the Reef is 4.5 star and the other is 3.5-4. The other is in a better spot, but only 5mins walk apart.
We took our 2.5 year old with us and he had a ball! He loved the beach, the pool, and we took him to the Honolulu zoo which is just at the end of the main Street - walking distance. A little further along they have an aquarium, but we ran out of time and didn't go there.
Hawaii is pretty kid friendly, lots of families there, so I'm sure these heaps more family stuff to do.
Shopping... Go to ala moana - it's closer than the outlets and we found some great deals there.

I went to the Big Island last year. I flew into Honolulu and then took a flight to HiLo on the Big Island (as they are different islands).

We went to some amazing places, but I don't think they were very family friendly, I'd probably stay on Oahu.
