I love him to pieces but I wish ... oh how I wish, that DS3 would self-settle - or at least go to sleep a little easier than he does. He's sooo different from his brothers, who were good sleepers (on the whole). I've just spent 50 mins of rocking, holding, patting ... letting him CIO for a few minutes before I go back in to start rocking, holding, patting ... and he still won't sleep. He sleeps in my arms and the minute I put him down in the cot he howls and howls (with his eyes closed, until he works himself up into such a patsy he wakes himself). He was tired, that's why I put him down. He had a dry butt, a good BF, comfy clothes and bed, the works. And he's not unwell.
It's doing my head in. I've ended up getting him up and he's now happily doing his thing exploring the lounge - hence I'm on BB venting. Little bugger (and I mean that as an endearment). I expect he'll crack it shortly as he IS tired.
Just when you think you know what you're doing with babies, they throw you for a loop.
OK, so it turns out that my crappy sleeper had a crappy nappy - well, he did within five mins of being put on the mat to play (not when I was trying to get him to sleep) - so it looks like he was trying to tell me his tummy was feeling a bit ick and he needed a good poo! I just took him back to bed and he was asleep within minutes. Like I said ... just when you think you've got babies sussed out!
