So DH and I have decided to build our dream home- eekkk!
We recently sold our itty bitty post war inner city home and have decided to rent while we build. After months of checking out building vs buying and then renos (which is what we did with the last place) we settled on building new with Plantation homes.
We have the block of land in the 'burbs, (although I am still mourning the loss of leaving the inner city behind) had a soil test and now finalising the build proposal from Plantation.
I'm wondering if any other BB members built with Plantation? Could you share your experiences? At this stage any information is very helpful, the builders have been very forthcoming with the process and costs, I'm just keen to hear some else's point of view.
Never heard of them. What city are you in? I've worked in the new home industry since I left school so know the ins and outs if you want to know anything, it just varies state to state
I haven't built with them but the best advice I can give you is to document everything - names of people, dates of when you spoke and what you spoke about. You don't know if or when you may need it.
Yay for building!! Hubby and I have just sent plans to council for our build!! We are nth Brissy, have bought a couple at acres in Dayboro and building our "forever" house.
We are building with a local builder, Trubuilt, and have custom designed our place. It's daunting but so exciting to be starting!!
Plantation homes are beautiful, we looked at some of their designs early on.
Look at lots of homes, not just that firm and then look at your plans. One thing to look at is cupboard space.
If it looks like there is not enough get it done before you build. Many of the houses these days don't have much storage and make sure there is wardrobes. Some plans don't include wardrobes in all rooms.
Another thing to get them to do if you are having central heating in the roof is put the unit in the roof.
Look to see if flyscreens are included on all windows and doors.
