Just wondering how much food I can realistically expect a blw 10 month old to eat. G and E started solids at six months and I try to give them three meals a day. They are both quite anti breakfast, not fans of fruit and are kind if picky with veggies. Do I just keep offering in the hope that eventually they will start gravitating towards the fruit and veg? As for breakfast, I am not forcing the issue but would really like to establish good habits when it comes to breakfast. I know it's normal for babies of this age to love something one day and refuse it the next but please reassure me of this. And that their seemingly fussy eating is also normal and will eventually level out.
Hey Melissa,
My DS was BLW and he LOVES his fruit but he is a bit fussy about his veges when on their own. I tend to make creamed corn muffins and just put grated veges in them. He will eat veges if they are with other items of food just not when on their own. Same as with the spagetti mince i tend to grate some carrot and add peas and corn to it so i know he gets some veges. He will also eat them in stews, stirfry's etc if they have sauce and flavour on them.
as for the amount? Lol i have no idea.. alot use to end up on the floor (and still does at 16 months) I use to worry that he wasnt getting enough but if he didnt want anymore food he would just keep throwin stuff on the floor, so i just hope he knows when he is full! lol perhaps as a guide.. he would eat maybe three (4cm round) small chicken mince meatballs and a few tastes of some pumpkin or potato mash at that age?
I read somewhere once you have to offer a food up to 10 times before knowing if a child really wont eat it or not? to get through the whole weird looking new food thing. not sure where i read that tho.. so could be complete rubbish!
If i offer DS breakfast at 7, he won't touch it. Some days i offer at 9, and he will have cereal plus 2 bits of toast. Have you tried offering a bit later?
It sounds like your two are doing fine. DD really took to solids around 12 months and eats most things these days (except pumpkin and zucchini). Both kids are grazers, and if dinner is too late won't eat much.
You can try preparing vegies in different ways, steamed, baked, raw...
Mmmmmm come to think of it, we usually do breakfast first thing but last week we had a plunket appointment early so breakfast was once we got home and they both did eat a reasonable amount. Might give that a whirl tomorrow and see how we go.
