I am going to make a cake for a birthday at the end of this month (surprise for a friend), and I have been told by my source that orange is the favourite.
I have a couple of ideas that I would like your feedback on please, and am thinking a vanilla and orange pairing for icing and cake.
Firstly, orange flavoured cake with a vanilla bean filling and icing (buttercream).
Or, vanilla cake with orange curd filling, and vanilla buttercream icing.
Also thinking of some glazed oranges (as in the syrupy orange segments) as a topping, OR sugared peel (but I did have that on her husband's cake a couple of weeks ago.....)
I am still in love with velvet textured cakes, so either way, I will more than likely go down velvet cake road.
Obviously I'm going for a bit special, which is new for me (have mainly done pretty plain cakes for morning teas, lunchboxes, etc), so thoughts most appreciated! Many thanks!
