Two ways, get them to lie down in a warm bath, wax tends to soften in water & dribble out. You can very gently clean around the opening only afterwards with a twisted bit of tissue.
Other way: there are ear wax softening drops you can get at the chemist, good idea to discuss which one is best with the pharmacist as some require cotton wool or not moving for a while afterwards (ie not very kid friendly).
ETA a lolly bribe, or even better, a spoonful of Manuka honey might create an incentive to have the drops done.
ETA - might be worth getting another opinion too. A possible ear infection is not something you want to muck around with, it can be horridly painful.

) as she has been complaining of a sore ear all night and morning, had runny nose, temps etc. I suspected maybe an eye infection. So off we go. He tells me her ear is too full of wax to tell anything but said her tonsils are inflamed. He couldn't tell me anything about how to clear the wax and ease some of the pain... this coming from a dr who told me to give a 4 yr old some strepsils!
